When part of the production line no longer meets the current production needs, do you choose to buy new equipment or modify old equipment? Scheucher, a hardwood flooring manufacturer based in Austria, was faced with such a choice not so long ago.
Among Scheucher's existing production lines is a milling machine that has been in operation since 1996. Conveyor belts are worn parts of milling machines and need to be replaced regularly in order to keep production deviations within 5%.
During a recent development of the plan, the technicians found that the safety control system of the milling machine no longer met the current safety requirements, and that if it was to continue to be used, the equipment would have to be retrofitted or a new milling machine would have to be purchased. As a result, what was supposed to be a simple scheduled maintenance upgrade turned into a Yes or No choice question in front of Karl Kaufmann.
Choices with an eye on sustainability
Scheucher, which has long been a company with nature, consciously concerned about the environment and a company that practices the motto of "sustainability", finally opted for a complete renovation of the old equipment.
The next thing to do is to find a suitable partner and determine a suitable retrofit solution.
"We also considered splitting the retrofit tasks and handing them over to different suppliers. But it was quickly vetoed, because the split meant we had little support for co-ordination." In the end, Pilz stood out from the crowd of retrofit suppliers and became the "right" partner, not only because Pilz offers safety consulting and engineering services covering the entire life cycle of plants and plants, but more importantly, because "sustainability with an eye on the environment" has always been advocated by the Pilz Group.
During the discussion phase, it was quickly agreed that some of the machine components that would be mechanically effective for another 10 to 15 years would be completely retained and then retrofitted according to the latest standards and safety regulations.
The premise of high-performance solutions is "inclusiveness"
The technical staff and management at Stilek were very pleased with the fact that all the installed components in the plant were included in the planning and safety design when designing the overall safety solution, and they were also very impressed with the final retrofit solution.
The woodworking industry is a special one, and the risk of sparks and possible fires is a huge challenge. This means that, in practice, the perimeter of the hazardous area cannot be completely isolated by a simple fence. Stilek installed a safety light curtain PSENopt II to protect fingers, hands and body in the open area around the device.
At the same time, in order to facilitate the accessibility of the machine, the safety gate system PSENmlock is installed in an uncommon way so that the operator can access the machine more easily. This is a solution based on real needs.
Today, the milling machine, which has been in service with Stilek for many years, has been given a new lease of life, combining performance and safety, as well as significantly improving energy efficiency, and will last at least another ten years.
The success of this comprehensive renovation also laid the foundation for the cooperation between the two parties for the next project.

Requirements for Pilz to fix safety switches
Safety doors are mainly used to prevent the operation of the machine under certain conditions (usually when the guard is not closed) in order to avoid the occurrence of danger as much as possible. If the safety gate switch itself is not installed in compliance, resulting in its interlocking function not being implemented correctly, "it is time to do nothing", obviously ...

Peel magnetic relay - relay common faults and solutions
First, the contact is loose and cracks
The contact is the electrical touch part of the relay to complete the switching load, and the contact of some products is riveted and pressed, and its primary disadvantage is that the contact is loose, the contact cracking or the scale azimuth error is too large. This will affect the touch reliability of the relay.

The working principle and characteristics of Pilz safety relays
Pilz safety relays generally consist of an iron core, a coil, an armature, a contact reed, etc. As long as a certain voltage is added to both ends of the coil, a certain current will flow through the coil, resulting in an electromagnetic effect. Under the action of electromagnetic attraction, the armature overcomes the pulling force of the return spring and sucks in the iron ...

Peel magnetic relays – what is the difference between a relay and a contactor
1. The effect is not the same:
The primary effect of the relay is: signal detection, transmission, conversion or disposal, the circuit current it is on and off is generally small, and it is generally used in the control circuit to control weak signals.
The primary effect of the contactor is to turn on or off the main circuit. Host...
