The technology and business of rail freight have remained the same for decades. Until now, in order to test the brakes of freight trains, the crew would walk around the entire train and hit each axle with a special hammer to check the proper operation of the braking system. PJM, the Austria specialist for railway transport systems, is working on the digitalisation of this process and is working with Pilz to develop safety technology for automatic braking tests. The challenge is that the carriages have no power supply, and the different technical equipment in the construction of the trains, which usually consists of 25 to 30 carriages, and varies greatly depending on the type of wagon, the place of origin and the age of the trains.
About PJ Monitoring GmbH
Founded in 2006, PJM is a complete supplier of rail transport in Austria that operates in two business areas worldwide: As an IEC/ISO 17025 certified inspection body, PJ Messtechnik GmbH measures and tests vehicle certification. PJ Monitoring GmbH, on the other hand, is advancing the automation of rail freight transport with forward-looking solutions such as intelligent load monitoring.
Certified, complete model solutions
The automation system PSS 4000 from Pilz includes railway-compatible input/output modules and records brake cylinder pressures in combination with sensor technology from Pilz. The control solution is connected to the carrier system via the local radio system and to the network-based back-end system via LTE. Instead of having to manually test the brakes in each carriage before each departure, the train driver has access to information about the current status and function of the brakes at all times via a tablet. Such a solution can reduce sources of error; Speed up train preparation. The entire system is certified by TÜV Süd and can be adapted to different cabins and brake types. Today, the automation solution is a European reference system for automated brake testing and is used by SBB Cargo in Switzerland, contributing to a more efficient process for rail freight.
The benefits at a glance
● PSS 4000 complies with the railway standards SIL 2, 3 and 4 for safety tasks
● Input and output modules can be used to retroactively expand the system.
● Future use cases such as electronic hand brakes or digital automatic coupling have been considered

Peel magnetic relays – the difference between solid state relays and mechanical relays
1. The structure/working principle of the two is different
Mechanical relays consist of an iron core, coils, and contacts. When the coil is energized, the current in the coil generates a magnetic field that makes the contacts act, thus completing the working principle of the mechanical relay.
Solid state relays are made up entirely of electronic components. That...

SIX POINTS FOR SAFETY RELAY REPAIR IN PILZ
PILZ PILZ SAFETY RELAYS ARE THE MAIN COMPONENTS FOR CONTROL CIRCUITS AND MONITORING AND PROTECTION SYSTEMS FOR ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES. WHEN THE ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE IS RUNNING, WHEN THE MOTORS, ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES OR CONNECTION LINES IN THE MAIN CIRCUIT AND AUXILIARY CIRCUIT FAIL, THE FAULT CAN BE REPLACED BY THE PILZ SAFETY RELAY OF THE CORRESPONDING MONITORING AND PROTECTION SYSTEM.

How Pilz replaces the safety switch
1. First, unscrew out the fixing screws of fixing the noodle frame and the water baffle plate according to the above steps;
2. Unscrew out the two screws that fix the safety switch, and pull out the two lead pins connecting the safety switch;
3. Replace the new safety switch and assemble it according to the original steps.

Pierre Switches – Requirements for securing safety switches
The fastener itself needs to be reliable and stable enough.
It can be removed with specialized tools, such as hexagon screws, star screws, etc. Phillips/slotted screws are not recommended, as in some cases these screws can be easily punched with nails or carry-on equipment.

Pilz: Determined by the harmonised service provider of EU standards
EU standards have no legal significance in themselves. However, it acquires legal status after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union or citation in domestic laws and regulations. The publication of these harmonized standards will result in a "presumption of conformity". As a result, users who adopt the standard can assume that their actions are in compliance with laws and directives. If it happens ...
