In the safe configurable small controller series PNOZmulti 2 from Pilz, a new stand-alone base module PNOZ m C0 is now available. PNOZ m C0 has the structural characteristics of a safety relay, but it is just as powerful as a safety controller. It offers 8 safety inputs and 4 safety semiconductor outputs on a width of only 22.5 mm and can reliably monitor up to 4 safety functions, including emergency stop, safety gate monitoring, safety light curtain and two-hand control. Depending on the application, it can be used to achieve the highest safety requirements in category PL (Performance Class) e or SIL CL 3 for high productivity on smaller machines. PNOZ m C0 is therefore a safe, high-performance and very economical solution for small machines in different industries and areas of application, such as packaging, robot modules or the food and beverage industry.

Also on this stand-alone base module, all safety loops are created via the intuitive software tool PNOZmulti Configurator, the basic version of which is free of charge. From version 11.1 onwards, individual safety requirements can be implemented simply and flexibly: for this purpose, the tool offers a large number of approved software modules for monitoring safety functions up to PL e/SIL CL 3. All created safety architectures can be used independently of the PLC controller. As a result, the safety loop can be downloaded directly to the device via a USB cable and saved directly on a chip card. Digitally supported engineering minimizes configuration time, reducing costs at this step in the lifecycle. What's more, the functionality can be extended or modified at any time. This is particularly advantageous in the case of serial production of machines, as they can be easily adapted to current requirements.

Simple scaling when necessary

If the number of safety functions for small machines increases, "small" projects can simply be migrated via software tools. The future expansion of a plant or machine is feasible at any time: If more safety functions are required, modular and scalable base modules can be used to provide sufficient performance for machines with a larger range of functions. Depending on the requirements, the basic module is selected to match the application. The modular, scalable base module also offers high connectivity, as it can be connected to all common fieldbus systems, user-friendly diagnostics and web-based visualization. Users benefit from a high degree of flexibility.

Wide range of solutions

In combination with the safety light curtain PSENopt II, the modular safety gate system PSENmlock or the E-STOP pushbutton PITestop from Pilz, users from a wide range of industries and applications have a safe, complete and one-stop solution. This supports the packaging industry as well as the food and beverage industry, for example on filling machines. In robotics or special-purpose machine building, solutions with new, stand-alone base modules can increase the productivity and economy of the machine.
