(1) Random Access Memory (RAM) The user can read out the content of the RAM with the programming device, and can also write the user program to the RAM, so the RAM is also called read/write memory. It is volatile memory, and when its power is interrupted, the stored information is lost. A computer's memory module uses RAM.

RAM works at a high speed, is cheap, and is easy to rewrite. Ability to use lithium battery to save user programs and certain data in RAM after PLC power failure. The disadvantage of this plan is that after 1-5 years of use, it is necessary to replace the lithium battery with too low voltage in time.

(2) The contents of the read-only memory (ROM) ROM can only be read out, not written. It is non-volatile, and its power supply is gone, but it can still hold the contents of the store. The ROM is used to store the system program of the PLC.

(3) It can electrically erase programmable read-only memory (EEPROM), also known as E2PROM, which is non-volatile, but it can be programmed with a programming device, and has the advantages of non-volatile ROM and random access of RAM, but the time to write data is much longer than that of RAM. EEPROM is used to host important data for user programs and requirements for a long period of time.

(4) Flash memory (FlashMemory) FlashMemory translated into Chinese is "flashing memory", generally called "flash memory", referred to as "flash memory", it has basically the same characteristics as EEPROM.

Because EEPROM or flash memory has the advantage of being non-volatile and easy to rewrite, the trend is to replace RAM with lithium batteries to stick to data, making PLCs completely unprotected devices. However, some PLCs still use RAM and lithium batteries to store user applications.
