With its compact size, outstanding accuracy and load capacity, the new IRB 1010 robot is ideal for the electronics industry to increase automation and increase the productivity of a wide range of electronic products, including smartwatches, headphones, sensors and health trackers.

The wearable smart devices market is accelerating, with double-digit growth expected between 2022 and 2028. To meet this growth, manufacturers are looking for compact robotic solutions that can help them produce in tight spaces on their electronics lines, including the precise handling of small components in wearables. With a payload of 1.5 kg, the IRB 1010 is ahead of other robots in ABB's class, making it ideal for these productions, helping manufacturers achieve productivity and efficiency while maintaining product quality.

Designed for tight spaces and specialized machine tools in electronics production environments, the IRB 1010 has a working range of up to 370 mm and a footprint of just 135 mm × 250 mm, which is 30 percent smaller than ABB's previous generation of the smallest robot, the IRB 120. The compact design of the IRB 1010 allows users to configure more robot cells in the production space, creating a high-density production layout and further increasing productivity.

With a load capacity of up to 1.5 kg, the IRB 1010 is ahead of other comparable products and can lift up to three times the weight. At the same time, the thickened air hose increases the vacuum suction, allowing the IRB 1010 to process multiple parts at the same time, resulting in a significant increase in processing efficiency per unit of time. In addition, the IRB 1010 can also help automate more applications in the electronics field, including film stripping, material handling, assembly, gluing, inspection, and more

The IRB 1010 is equipped with a 6-axis braking system that maintains its original attitude even when it is stopped, further increasing productivity. With no need to reset after a pause and production can resume quickly, the IRB 1010 is more efficient than other comparable products.

In addition, the accuracy of the IRB 1010 is impressive. The ABB OmniCore™ E10 controller plays a key role in providing the IRB 1010 with industry-leading repeatability and repeat path accuracy of up to 0.01mm. The OmniCore™ E10's ultra-slim design makes it ideal for applications such as small part assembly that require a small production cell, and easily expandable production lines with built-in digital connectivity and more than 1,000 additional features.

Compared to ABB's previously launched IRC 5C controller, the OmniCore™ E10 consumes up to 20 percent less energy, enabling manufacturers to further reduce energy costs and improve energy efficiency.

Programming made easy

As a new plug-in to ABB's RobotStudio® programming software, Robot Control Mate makes it easy to program the IRB 1010 robot. The IRB 1010 robot can be moved, taught, and calibrated on a computer or tablet without programming skills.

Thanks to its easy programming and compact size, the IRB 1010 expands the possibilities for use in the education sector. Its compact design makes it ideal for installation on a desk, and its easy-to-use features allow teachers and students to quickly learn programming and operation.

The launch of the IRB 1010 further expands ABB's complete portfolio of articulated industrial robots, including small, medium and large robots, as well as an ever-expanding family of cobots that can work safely side by side with people.
