ABB Robotics integrates ASTI with ASTI and launches autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) with a new brand identity
ABB is the industry's leading provider of a complete portfolio of robotics, autonomous mobile robots and machine automation
Following the acquisition of ASTI, the world's leading AMR manufacturer, in 2021, ABB has launched a new brand identity for its range of autonomous mobile robots. Since its inclusion in the AMR portfolio, ABB has become the industry's leading provider of complete robotics, autonomous mobile robots and machine automation solutions.
When companies are looking for a range of robotic solutions that will help them become more efficient, flexible and adaptable, we offer a complete portfolio of robotics, autonomous mobile robots and machine automation solutions. This is a turning point for our customers, who have access to everything they need to meet the opportunities and challenges of personalized consumption, labor shortages, and supply chain disruptions with a single partner. The renewal of ABB's brand image for autonomous mobile robots underscores the convenience and advantages of our ability to provide integrated solutions to our customers.
ASTI's solution has now been renewed, named and integrated into ABB's portfolio as the Flexley™ product family, which stands for the operational flexibility offered by autonomous mobile robots. The first AMR models to be released are the Flexley Tug and Flexley Mover, which cover applications such as towing, trolley transport up to 2,000 kg, and lifting and transport of racks, totes and pallets up to 1,500 kg.
Building on ASTI's use of laser-based 2D SLAM navigation, future ABB autonomous mobile robots will also benefit from Sevensense's (Switzerland start-up, ABB partner) groundbreaking VSLAM technology, which enables mobile robots to navigate complex dynamic environments. This unique technology opens up new possibilities for flexible manufacturing – AI enables ABB's AMRs to be as autonomous as its robotic arms, while making work more efficient and safer for people.
Verónica Pascual, Global Head of Autonomous Mobile Robotics at ABB Robotics, said,
The market for autonomous mobile robots is set to grow substantially, with an expected annual growth rate of around 24%* from 2021 to 2028. The integration of ASTI's range of autonomous mobile robots and the establishment of our global manufacturing and support network means that we are well positioned to address this growth, providing our customers with new ways to solve their supply chain challenges and meet the need for greater flexibility and speed brought about by the continued growth of e-commerce."
ABB has already provided an autonomous mobile robot solution to Expert Technology Group, a strategic partner of United Kingdom, and a complete assembly line based on autonomous mobile robots for a technology start-up that produces drive systems for electric vehicles. Autonomous mobile robots are responsible for transporting products between robotic automation cells and human assembly stations. The entire automation solution uses ABB robots, vision function packages and autonomous mobile robots to work together.
ABB's integration of ASTI included a comprehensive brand refresh across all of its premises and facilities.
