The title partner of the all-electric ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, working with the governing body of motorsport around the world to promote women's empowerment.
As part of its 2030 sustainability strategy to advance society, ABB has become an official global partner of the FIA Girls on Track, a grassroots initiative to inspire the next generation of women.
In addition to focusing on achieving a low-carbon society and conserving resources, ABB's sustainability strategy includes promoting social progress, equality and diversity to create a safe, equitable and inclusive work environment and support community building.
Encouraging women's participation in STEM and traditionally male-dominated environments is one of the strategy's focus areas – perfect for high-profile motorsport platforms, bringing these two elements together naturally while highlighting the exciting and groundbreaking impact technology and engineering that can be.
In line with the FIA's goal-driven sport aimed at making a positive contribution to motorsport and mobility to society, the FIA Girls on Track is aimed at girls between the ages of 8 and 18 who want to inspire the next generation to challenge preconceptions and stereotypes in motorsport. It aims to provide young women with a positive experience of the motorsport environment and increase women's long-term involvement in the field – both on and off the track. Through this partnership, ABB aims to partner with the FIA Girls on Track-ABB Formula E project to educate and empower young girls in career choices and help them build a brighter and more diverse future.
Björn Rosengren, CEO of ABB, said: "The FIA Girls on Track – ABB Formula E project is an ideal opportunity for us to further engage in the sport and continue to use it as a way to help inspire and empower the next generation of women. This is another example of how ABB is working with the communities in which we operate to provide impactful support across three pillars: education, diversity and inclusion, and care for the community. ”
ABB will work with the FIA and ABB Formula E Team to leverage their experience and expertise to develop educational programs in the run-up to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and to promote positive stories of women in technology and engineering. The partnership will also facilitate the development of talent acquisition opportunities.
"Our FIA Girls on Track event has already opened thousands of young people's eyes to the diverse career opportunities in motorsport, and further developing the program with Formula E and ABB as a global partner is another big step towards driving diversity and inclusion," said Michèle Mouton, Chair ·of the FIA Women's Motorsport Committee.
"If we're going to increase women's engagement, it's very important to be passionate and inspired at a young age. This extended partnership between the FIA, the Women's Motorsport Commission and Formula E will only help to raise awareness of the equal opportunities that the sport offers for everyone, while the enjoyable yet educational Track Girls event will hopefully encourage young girls to choose an industry geared towards us. ”
Formula E CEO Jam·ie Reigle added: "We are delighted to expand our relationship with the FIA Girls on Track programme, which is a central pillar of our commitment to providing motorsport opportunities for young women. ABB works closely with Formula E teams on many of our strategic projects, so they were a natural fit to be the first global partner for our FIA Girls on Track program. Following the successful launch of the program, we look forward to working with ABB and FIA to expand its reach." ”
The partnership is ABB's latest commitment to diversity and inclusion, joining an existing agreement with the Society for Women in Engineers (SWE), the world's largest advocate and catalyst for change for women in engineering and technology. In addition, ABB aims to double the number of women in senior management roles to 25% by 2030.
