ABB Ability™ Tekomar XPERT marine is a digital portfolio that provides deep insights into vessel performance, CO2 emissions monitoring and reporting
ABB estimates that Tekomar XPERT marine is able to perform deeper analysis of vessel operational data, resulting in a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 20%, lower operating costs and lower emissions
The Ship Digitalization portfolio automatically generates tailor-made assessment reports to meet different needs, saving time in ship management and improving operational efficiency
ABB's digital solution, Tekomar XPERT marine, will further simplify the management of ship propulsion systems and emissions. The portfolio can make a significant contribution to the decarbonisation of the shipping industry, which is under pressure to halve CO2 emissions by 2050, by achieving potential combined emissions reductions of up to 20%.
Tekomar XPERT marine consists of three modules: engine performance diagnostics, vessel propulsion efficiency assessment, and carbon intensity metrics and trend forecasting. Combined, these modules provide actionable analytics and insights to improve vessel performance that shipping companies can use to make better operational decisions that can lead to significant fuel savings. This, in turn, allows the vessel to achieve a higher Carbon Intensity Index (CII) rating.
Tekomar XPERT's Engine Performance Diagnostics module has become a proven solution for many shipping companies and is currently providing performance diagnostics for more than 8,000 engines in operation. The capabilities of the solution have been further expanded with the launch of modules for vessel propulsion efficiency assessment (analysis of hull and propeller) and carbon intensity indicators and trend analysis.
The Carbon Intensity Indicators & Trends module accurately predicts a vessel's CII rating and CO2 emission level, and provides a carbon report that complies with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the European Union's MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) greenhouse gas emissions regulations. The module is based on electronic log data and has the features of easy to use and automatic generation of relevant reports. The actual and simulated CII ratings are based on the vessel's key operating parameters and historical data.
The ship propulsion efficiency evaluation module provides real-time analysis of the ship's propulsion system (hull and propeller). For example, it can accurately assess hull decontamination requirements, which has a significant positive impact on improving the performance and efficiency of ships – as hull fouling can lead to excessive fuel consumption of up to 20%. Based on specific analyses and evaluations, the most cost-effective improvement measures and recommendations can be easily obtained.
"Tekomar XPERT marine's expanded modules for vessel propulsion efficiency assessment and carbon intensity metrics and trend forecasting have taken our digital offering to the next level. These functional modules deliver real customer value by increasing efficiency. For example, up to 3 tonnes of fuel can be saved per day just by optimizing the performance of the engine, which means that around 9 tonnes of CO2 emissions can be saved per day. Cristian Corotto, Vice President, Digital Customer Solutions for Turbo Turbo, ABB. "Equally important, the information provided by the system can also support decision-making and recommendations on the best timing and recommendations for scheduling hull cleaning, as well as analysing the root causes of reduced propulsion efficiency. Fundamentally, with Tekomar XPERT marine, customers can enter a new phase of data-driven decision-making. ”
The analysis results of all three modules are immediately available to shipowners and operators, and the solution can be integrated into existing data collection systems. Expanded digital analytics capabilities provide benchmarking, historical data tracking, and trend forecasting. In addition, these functional modules can provide efficient, convenient and compliant support and services for customers' requirements for improving ship management and operational efficiency, as well as reducing carbon emissions, from engine performance diagnostics to ship propulsion efficiency (hull and propeller), as well as their carbon emissions and CII ratings.
Customers can gain 24-hour access through the portal to view data and benchmark their entire fleet. Operational data can be shared with ABB via C-2-C (cloud-to-cloud), which will then evaluate, analyze and provide expert operational analysis and insights. Tekomar XPERT marine features are available for all brands and all new and old engine models.
