The AC and DC chargers have been supplied to Dongfeng Honda, a joint venture between China's Dongfeng Motor Group and Japan's Honda Motor Company, to support the final factory inspection of its best-selling models.
ABB units have been installed on the EV assembly line, allowing each EV to be tested and charged before leaving the factory. They will also determine that each car can properly receive both alternating and direct current. Located in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone in Hubei Province, China, the plant produces Dongfeng Honda's best-selling models, and the large site of more than 980,000 square meters will help the company meet the surging demand for electric vehicles in China.
A range of ABB chargers were selected for the entire assembly line, and these chargers were selected based on Dongfeng Honda's previous experience with ABB's low- and medium-voltage power distribution products. A standard 60kW Terra 63Z DC charger and an EVinn 7kW AC charger were installed in the automotive inspection line and fault analysis area. Within the stricter inspection line range, a smaller 120kW 2-in-1 Terra 124Z DC charger is used.
Data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) shows that more than 1.2 million electric vehicles were sold in China in 2019 – the second year in a row that more than a million electric vehicles were sold nationwide.
The "China New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)" predicts that by 2025, a quarter of new cars sold in China will be electric vehicles; It further estimates that by 2030, there will be more than 64 million electric vehicles on the road in China.
Frank Muehlon, Global Business Leader for E-Mobility Infrastructure Solutions at ABB, said: "Charging capacity needs to grow in tandem with China's booming EV sales and adoption. With the development of the country's new energy vehicle industry, automakers are transforming to meet consumers' growing preference for electric vehicles. We are pleased to help Dongfeng Honda realize its EV development strategy." ”
Muehlon added that ABB will continue to invest in EV charging technology to continuously improve the charging experience for users.
ABB entered the EV charging market in 2010 as a global leader in EV infrastructure, and ABB has installed 14,000 connected DC fast charging stations in 80 countries around the world. In China, ABB's fast charging solutions have been successfully deployed in more than 30 cities, helping the country build a future-oriented sustainable transportation system. ABB can provide end-to-end closed-loop solutions in the field of electric vehicles, from power distribution systems and infrastructure to day-to-day operation and maintenance.
