ABB today published the 3/2022 edition of ABB Review, the company's technical journal. The main theme of the quarter is "Better Decision-Making", which examines the decision-making benefits of digital solutions across the enterprise, from the boardroom to the shop floor. As decision-makers need to understand and analyze data quickly and accurately, ABB offers a wide range of technology solutions to support them.
ABB's RobotStudio, the world's most used robot simulation and offline programming tool, is one such solution. The RobotStudio AR Viewer app is an augmented reality (AR) application for mobile devices that visualizes industrial robots pre-configured in RobotStudio in a real-world environment. AR capabilities enable precise positioning of robots on the shop floor, helping to better understand how robots fit into spaces, helping to speed up the planning of manufacturing processes.
The new release also cites the ABB Ability portfolio of digital solutions, including more than 170 IoT products serving commercial and industrial customers in a variety of environments. ABB Ability combines software innovation with connectivity to help the company's customers improve countless decisions across the enterprise to increase productivity, increase agility and reduce emissions. The new ABB Ability™ Energy & Asset Manager cloud solution is an example of what is described in the new ABB review. It can be accessed from any location and any connected device and optimizes energy consumption in data centers and other facilities.
"Traditionally, operators have made decisions based on intuition, which stems from long-term experience and formal training," writes Björn Rosengren, CEO of ABB, in the opening chapter of this issue. "Today, data mining technology and artificial intelligence help operators make better decisions by providing a wealth of information that was previously inaccessible."
