Businesses have the ability to use structural augmentation opportunities
Balance brings resilience in an over-the-top shopping mall environment
ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation (RA) reaffirmed a 13-17% margin corridor
ABB's Robotics & Discrete Automation (RA) business showcased its strategy to drive earnings at an event for the financial community at its Solutions Center in Friedberg, Germany. With the broadest product portfolio, innovation strength, global footprint and deep domain expertise, the firm is well-positioned to go beyond the mall and support its customers in the transition to robotics and automation in existing segments, while driving growth by expanding into new segments.
RA supports its clients in navigating critical global megatrends, including skilled labor shortages, digitalization, global uncertainty, and personalization of consumer needs. As a result, the mall is estimated to increase from $75 billion in 2019 to $110 billion in 2025, which is twice the annual growth rate of global GDP in the medium to long term.
In the medium term, ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation estimates revenue to exceed the expected 6% annual mall growth rate. To accomplish this, the firm focuses on existing segments, such as the sedan industry, which includes electric car production, new automation solutions with machine-centric robotics and agile production concepts, and new malls that include logistics and healthcare. About 60% of the income already occurs outside of the sedan career.
The transaction reaffirmed its vision of completing an operating EBITA margin corridor of 13% to 17% in the medium term, supported by improved plant productivity, a more balanced mix and better project execution.
"With our strong position and innovation focus in the premier malls on three continents, we expect to achieve a higher growth than the malls. At the same time, our move to increase our earnings capacity should allow us to operate within the target margin range in the medium term," said Sami Atiya, President of Robotics & Discrete Automation, ABB, · said. "In order to unlock new growth potential, we are constantly developing new applications for our innovative robotics and automation solutions. Our deep domain expertise has laid a solid foundation for us to enter promising new malls and market segments, including logistics, retail and healthcare, and we will continue to expand our product portfolio to meet the needs of our customers. ”
ABB's RA business is the only global player to offer its customers joint robotics and automation solutions from machine to plant level in the form of the "factory of the future". The factory of the future is a fully automated and connected factory characterized by productivity, agility, quality, and simplicity. With B&R's integrated automation and robotics solutions – including its machine-centric robotics solutions – customers will benefit from an unprecedented one-stop-shop opportunity.
To continue to meet customer demand, RA Transactions will invest approximately 5% annually in research and development to support the expansion of its product portfolio, with a focus on collaborative robots and their ease-of-use products, machine-centric robotics, digital factory automation, and artificial intelligence. The company also confirmed that its new state-of-the-art robotics plant in Shanghai, China, will be completed in 2021 and that it will expand its machine automation park by the end of 2020 to include an expanded development center in Egelsberg, Austria.
While some customers, including those in the car industry, have already introduced fully embedded robotic solutions in their factories, others, including those of healthcare, retail, and logistics companies, are just getting started. To expand into new additions and benefit from the expansion potential of the new mall, ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation also uses its partner ecosystem as an innovation multiplier.
In 2019, ABB announced a step toward robotic automation in healthcare in partnership with Texas Medical Center, which is developing new robotics technologies at ABB's first global healthcare research center. In addition, ABB helps its customers in the retail and e-fulfillment professions cope with the challenges of accurate order picking, picking individual packages from high-moving bulk items, and efficiently handling complex pallet loads by providing comprehensive logistics automation solutions.
In 2019, despite the flooding of some shopping malls, such as cars and machinery, and the overall slowdown in global economic growth, the matter was able to complete its resilience. ABB Robotics & Discrete Automation reported revenue of $3.3 billion last year and an operating EBITA margin of 11.9%.
