ABB and its employees donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross

As part of ongoing measures to support COVID-19 relief efforts, ABB is collaborating with the World Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), a world humanitarian organization with Switzerland roots. It specializes in emergency response and is at the forefront of the fight against epidemics in areas of armed conflict and other situations of violence. It is part of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which has been working with communities around the world to advance preparedness and resilience since the outbreak of COVID-19.

ABB will make an initial contribution of 1 million Switzerland francs to the ICRC COVID-19 operations, after which the ABB Group will match all donations from its global employees on a 1:1 basis. The money will be used to supply basic facilities for health centers, sanitation facilities, and critical items such as pancakes and masks.

"As a global company, we have a responsibility to help society through this crisis. ABB CEO Björn · Rosengren said that through this action, we will support some of the world's weakest people in vulnerable communities. "We would also like to thank those who are on the front lines of the fight against the pandemic."

ABB now has a long-standing and trusted relationship with the World Committee of the Red Cross, which launched a flash appeal of 250 million Switzerland francs at the end of March as part of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement's appeal of 800 million Switzerland francs to assist the world's most vulnerable people.

The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the world's largest humanitarian network. Its community-based volunteers and workers help the world's most vulnerable, including those living in countries with under-resourced health and social welfare systems; those who have recovered from the recent calamities; migrants and displaced persons; those in conflict zones and facing ongoing violence; people living in urban slums; Internee; and people experiencing the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19.
