Season 6 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship will conclude with three races at Berlin Tempelhof Airport
ABB's skills drive progress and help Germany achieve its approach to electric cars and sustainability
The ABB FIA Formula E Championship returns to the Germany capital next week for the sixth consecutive year to wrap up the final rounds of the season.
The six races will take place over nine days – August 5/6, 8/9, 12/13 – with each pair using a different track rig to give drivers a strategy and familiarize themselves with the new layout in a short period of time.
The Berlin Circuit is located at Tempelhof Airport, on the tarmac, which was once the air gateway to the city. Since the suspension of aircraft operations in 2008, Tempelhof, located south of the city center, has been used from the ground up as a city park and a venue for several exhibitions and events.
Following the start of Season 6, Antonio· Felix · da Costa dominated the Drivers' Championship – and his DS Techeetah team also led the constructors' championship – narrowly ahead of Panasonic Jaguar's Mitch · Evans.
Tempelhof will also host the final seven rounds of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, with ABB as the official charging partner. While the Shoring Series will be completed at the end of the season, the lessons learned from this collaboration and the challenges that sustain the Global Series, combined with ABB's extensive charging experience around the world, will be incorporated into ABB's chargers. The Gen3 cars will be supplied for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship Season 9.
ABB is promoting electric cars and sustainability in Germany to help underpin the country's approach in these areas. Compared to 1990 levels, the government's policy is to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 [1], by which time there should be between 7 and 10 million electric cars (EVs) on Germany's roads[2]. It also plans to completely ban the sale of internal combustion engine sedans by 2050. [3]
As a global leader in the supply of charging infrastructure for electric cars, from electric cars and buses to solutions for boats and trains, ABB continues to strengthen its leading position in this field, especially in Germany, where ABB is known for its car industry. This includes an exclusive partnership with Porsche earlier this year to promote the development of electric sedans by becoming the official partner of the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. In collaboration with Germany's public transport operator Hamburger Hochbahn AG, ABB also supplied and installed the HVC charging system and electrical infrastructure for Germany's first all-electric bus station.
Tarak Mehta, President of ABB Electrification· said: "The Berlin E-Prix provides an avenue to showcase the skills of electric cars, underlining ABB's long-term role as a collaborative partner in driving Germany sustainability initiatives. We are proud to work directly with manufacturers on and off the track to continuously improve the wide availability of reliable and high-performance charging infrastructure, which is key to Germany's progress. ”
ABB's plant in Lüdenscheid in Germany is the company's first CO2-neutral production site
Germany is also home to ABB's first CO2-neutral production site in Lüdenscheid. Here, thanks to ABB Electrification's groundbreaking "Mission Zero" project, the combination of solar energy, smart energy management and an efficient cogeneration plant can supply the entire plant with enough energy, which together can reduce CO2 emissions by around 630 tonnes per year.
Since its founding in 1900, ABB Germany has become one of the country's leading skills companies, employing 8,500 people at more than 30 locations. It operates in the fields of electrification products, industrial automation and robotics, drives and motors. It also actively contributes to shaping Germany's digital future with its ABB Ability™ digital products. Germany is ABB's third largest market by revenue.
