ABB has partnered with Microsoft to integrate generative AI capabilities into industrial digital solutions for safer, smarter and more sustainable operations
The collaboration aims to improve efficiency and sustainability by deploying Copilot capabilities to enable more intuitive user interactions with the ABB Ability™ Genix industrial analytics and AI suite and its applications
ABB will leverage Microsoft's Azure OpenAI service to further optimize ABB Ability™ Genix
Building on their long-standing relationship, ABB and Microsoft have integrated Azure OpenAI services into the ABB Ability™ Genix suite of industrial analytics and AI. The two companies will work to implement generative AI technologies to help industrial customers unlock hidden insights in their operational data. Improvements in data collection and governance capabilities will significantly improve efficiency and productivity, enhance asset reliability and operational security, reduce energy consumption and reduce environmental impact.
ABB will integrate generative AI into the Genix platform and applications through Azure OpenAI services, including large language models (LLMs) such as GPT-4, to enable code, image and text generation. Upon launch, the new Genix Copilot app will enhance the user experience by providing intuitive functionality and streamlining the flow of connected data across processes and operations. Improve decision-making and increase productivity by providing real-time, actionable insights to industry executives, functional experts, and shop floor engineers. Such insights have the potential to extend asset lifecycles by up to 20% and reduce unplanned downtime by up to 60%.
In addition, the solution provides advanced monitoring and optimization insights into industrial greenhouse gas emissions and energy use, helping customers achieve their sustainability and energy transition goals.
Genix Copilot also captures the experience gained by operations staff, facilitates joint decision-making across roles, and has a special focus on protecting data and cognitive security within the organization.
ABB Ability™ Genix is a comprehensive, modular IIoT, analytics and AI platform that preserves customers' investments while embedding industry-specific domain knowledge to drive business performance...... Enterprises running Genix have seen up to 40% savings in O&M costs, up to 30% increase in productivity, and 25% improvement in energy efficiency and emissions optimization. With the addition of generative AI capabilities, Genix is expected to further expand these benefits.
"This is an important step in ABB's strategic partnership with Microsoft to accelerate the digital transformation of the industrial sector," commented Rajesh Ramachandran, Global Chief Digital Officer, ABB's Process Automation business unit. Expanding generative AI capabilities in ABB's industrial digitalization solutions will lead customers to a new era of AI-enabled decision-making. ”
"We believe that modernizing and scaling our data platform is critical to the long-term success of our business," said Ralph Haupter, president of Microsoft's EMEA region. "Leveraging advanced digital capabilities, such as Azure OpenAI services, will help empower ABB Genix to effectively manage connected data while driving digital transformation to drive elevation and continuous change."
Genix unleashes the power of data by automating the integration of data from enterprise operations (OT), information (IT), and engineering (ET) and applies industrial AI to further enhance analytics and optimization capabilities. The platform can seamlessly scale from assets to factories to the enterprise, deploying across cloud, hybrid, edge, or on-premises. It's designed to be secure and reliable, and uses Microsoft Azure to enable integrated cloud connectivity and services.
