The latest video from ABB's FIA Girls on Track series
A new episode of ABB Decoded, aired live on Friday with Alejandro Agag, founder and chairman of Formula E, Alej·andro Agag
With the arrival of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia will host electric motorsport for the first time this weekend.
The 22 riders will race on a purpose-built 2.37-kilometer track with the Bay of Jakarta as the backdrop. With 18 turns and a long, fast start/finish straight, this track is designed to bring together the best elements of street racing.
Theodor Swedjemark, Chief Communications & Sustainability Officer at ABB, said: "We look forward to seeing the ABB Formula E race take place on this exciting new circuit. Although this is a new market for the championship, ABB has been supporting Indonesia's economic growth for more than 30 years, empowering the country through leading electrification and automation technologies. ”
Jakarta has undergone rapid urbanization in recent decades and is the most populous city in Southeast Asia with over 10 million inhabitants. The increasing population density has created a plethora of development needs, and PT Putragaya Wahana (PGW), an Indonesian real estate development and management company, has risen to the challenge. It is developing a large complex centered around Tower 1, Thamrin Nine, in the heart of the city, which will be the tallest building in Indonesia and the southern hemisphere.
The construction and maintenance of power networks in high-rise buildings places high demands on ensuring an uninterrupted power supply to critical systems and equipment. ABB is providing power distribution solutions to ensure the reliability of power supply. Its UniGear switchgear provides the design flexibility and system protection needed to meet the unique requirements of a project.
Another ABB project supporting Indonesia's development is the central government's Gresik drinking water project. It has a capacity of 1,000 litres per second and aims to improve the supply of drinking water to the community and industry in Gresik Regency. ABB is providing drivers and programmable logic controllers to improve efficiency, with an estimated annual energy savings of 37% compared to traditional solutions.
E-Prix Jakarta will also host the latest FIA Girls on Track, of which ABB is its global partner. The event will offer girls between the ages of 8 and 18 the opportunity to explore the many facets of the motorsport industry through a series of events and workshops. One of them will focus on ABB Robotics and feature two of the company's newest collaborative robots – YuMi and GoFa.
To further support this partnership, the latest video from ABB's FIA Girls on Track series has been released ahead of the race, shot by award-winning Formula E photographer Lou Johnson. This video explores her experiences in the series, the challenges she faced, and the positive diversity and inclusion changes evident in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
A new episode of ABB Decoded – a podcast focused on the technologies and trends shaping our world – will air on Friday. Featuring A·lejandro Agag, Formula E Founder and President, Alejandro Agag explores how he founded the world's first all-electric international single-seater championship, what inspired him, and what comes next.
Following Jakarta, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will travel to Marrakech for round 10 on July 2.
