The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship travels to Rome's EUR business district this weekend for the fourth leg of the Rome E-Prix – which will once again be a double-headed event.

The Circuito Cittadino dell'EUR circuit is one of the longest circuits on the calendar, with a length of 3.385 km, with the Colosseo Quadrato as the backdrop, around the Obelisco di Marconi. The 19-turn track is technical and fast, with long straights, undulations, elevation changes and plenty of overtaking opportunities – all of which will test the limits of drivers, cars and teams.

ABB's new $30 million facility in San Giovanni Valdano is a global center of excellence and production site for EV charging infrastructure. The 16,000-square-meter plant, which will be officially launched this summer, will produce ABB's full range of direct current (DC) electric vehicle battery chargers – from domestic installations to systems installed in public areas and systems dedicated to urban public transport. This new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will help further support ABB's growth and innovation in the field of electric vehicles.

One such example is ABB's role in supporting rail operator Trenitalia's move towards zero-emission vehicles. As part of a feasibility and economic study, ABB recently partnered with the company on a pilot project for locomotives running on non-electrified lines near Reggio Calabria. The pilot includes hybrid propulsion technology, as well as an energy storage system that allows trains to recover energy from braking for reuse. These technologies are particularly well suited to countries like Italy, where many railway lines have not yet been electrified. This project is a prime example of the work that ABB encourages and emphasizes through its energy efficiency campaign. It was announced this week that Germany Post DHL Group, the world's leading brand in the logistics industry, has joined the campaign. The two companies also signed a memorandum of understanding to support each other in the implementation of their respective sustainability strategies. DPDHL and ABB will collaborate on projects to reduce ABB's carbon footprint in its logistics facilities and the transportation of goods. The two companies will also work together to help improve the energy efficiency of DPDHL's logistics and office facilities, with a primary focus on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems where high-efficiency electric motors and variable speed drives can drastically reduce energy use.

"We welcome DPDHL to the campaign and thank them for their public commitment," said Tarak Mehta, President of ABB Motion. "We also look forward to working with them on projects that will help us both adopt technologies that are critical to achieving a low-carbon future."

As DHL is the logistics partner for ABB's Formula E project, this collaboration further strengthens the existing relationship between the two companies and helps to ensure that the transportation of all event materials is as sustainable and efficient as possible.

These partnerships and initiatives complement ABB's 2030 Sustainability Strategy, under which ABB has also launched the Climate Initiatives program, which will be implemented throughout Q8. The plan includes a series of climate talks, the second of which will take place in Rome before the game. The panel was co-hosted by the embassies of Switzerland and Sweden and featured Theodor Swedjemark, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer at ABB, Antonio de Bellis, Chief Manager of Electric Mobility at ABB Italy, Julia Pallé and Lucas Di Grassi, Sustainability Directors at Formula E, ABB Ambassadors and ROKiT Venturi Racing drivers.

Another partnership ABB is supporting its 2030 sustainability strategy in this campaign is with FIA Girls on Track to help inspire and empower the next generation of women. As part of this, ABB will be producing a video series throughout the season to highlight the many incredible women working in the Formula E paddock. The third video of ABB Ambassador and Tag Heuer Porsche Reserve Driver Simona de Silvestro was released today.

After the match in Rome, the tournament will return to Monaco for round 6 on April 30.
