ABB's transformer inspection industrial robot TXplore will be launched in the United Kingdom

ABB has announced that it will launch its industrial robot transformer inspection device TXplore in the United Kingdom.

TXplore is designed to operate inside the oil of power transformers, with near-real-time safety checks and monitoring. Operators can gain insight into transformer performance and perform maintenance before failures occur.

Being able to feed an industrial robot inside a transformer eliminates the need to turn off the power and empty the transformer, and it is also possible to send a team to inspect personnel in a hazardous environment. The threat to human life, as well as the time and cost spent on maintenance, is greatly reduced.

"ABB conducted the first industrial robotic inspection of a 50-year-old transformer for a North American utility and is currently rolling out the TXplore service in the United Kingdom to help operators manage risk and limit downtime for critical assets," said Jamie Stapleton, head of digital at ABB's transformers division.
