ABB and ASKO power delivery fleets in Norway

ABB has entered into an agreement with ASKO, Norway's largest grocery wholesaler, and its owner, Norges Gruppen, to supply charging infrastructure for its growing fleet of electric vans. Currently, ASKO has 600 trucks on the road every day, with the goal of achieving zero-emission delivery of groceries by 2026. Financial details were not disclosed.

ABB will assist ASKO in providing an efficient and reliable charging infrastructure for battery-electric vans in distribution centers across the country. The first ABB HVC 150C (150 kW) high-power chargers have been put into operation at the ASKO distribution center in Oslo. Initially, they were charging two electric Scania vans, with more to follow.

Overall flexibility and power will be key to the solution working seamlessly with the rest of the electrical infrastructure.

Marius Aarset, Chief Skills Officer at ASKO, continued: "We are focused on considering solutions for other activities, such as charging electric pallet trucks, refrigeration systems, and solar cells in distribution centers to prevent power spikes, guess charging needs, and optimize the charging process, for example in relation to the loading of goods. ”

ASKO has been a front-runner for zero-emission trucks in Norway. It started using an innovative van from the Netherlands in Oslo in 2016 with a payload of 5 and a half metric tons. In early 2020, they put into operation four hydrogen-powered Scania vans in Trondheim with a total weight of 26 tonnes and a range of 500 kilometres.

This was followed by the launch of a battery-electric Scania van in the capital, with a payload of about 10 metric tons and a regular range of up to 120 km. ASKO ordered a total of 55 of these Scania vans and was the first company in the country to order 10 Tesla Semi vans. The latter has a payload of 36,000 kg and a range of up to 800 km.
