(hereinafter referred to as "DENSO") has been focusing on trunk line transit services in logistics, and its subsidiary, DENSO TEN, has launched the "Shuttle Line Of Communication" project (SLOC), which aims to optimize a harmonious logistics network so that logistics drivers can work with peace of mind and work together to complete a "new logistics business" that is friendly to the environment.

As the epidemic normalizes and the demand for logistics is expected to continue to grow in the future, the drivers who support the delivery of goods are faced with harsh working conditions and asymmetrical treatment*1, and the number of drivers engaged in freight transportation in many places is decreasing, and the existing transportation system may be difficult to maintain. Prices are rising, and the shelves of offline supermarkets may be gradually reduced in the future; Air logistics leads to long-term inefficient transportation, which will further burden the environment.

· "2024 Questions" for Logistics Careers

Logistics drivers generally deliver late at night when the traffic is smooth and arrive at the receiving point early in the morning, and there are also situations where they wait for a long time to reload the goods in order not to return empty, resulting in long-term fatigue. Japan's "Upper Limit on Overtime Hours for Car Handling Affairs", which is scheduled to be launched on April 1, 2024, restricts the overtime hours of logistics drivers, which will also show shorter working hours, reduced revenues, and untimely delivery of goods. According to current data, it is estimated that there will be a shortfall of about 278,000 drivers*2 by 2028, and if the current system is used, about one-quarter of the goods may not be able to be delivered.

· Logistics "innovation" for trunk transit transportation

Denso's SLOC is a main line and branch line that separates the transit Hamamatsu Tozai Gate, allowing trucks transporting goods from Tokyo to Osaka to unload goods in Hamamatsu, and trucks from Osaka to Hamamatsu to receive the unloaded goods and transport them back to Osaka. With the "Exchange Container Vehicle", the contents of the truck can be quickly handed over to the next truck along with the goods rack.

Transferring goods from Kansai and Tokyo to Hamamatsu can reduce the number of empty trips and prevent drivers from getting tired for a long time. As a result, even people who cannot be engaged in transportation work for a long time can become drivers, which is expected to alleviate the shortage of drivers and workers caused by the "2024 problem".

In addition, in the demonstration experiment, DENSO has developed a simple operation management system based on QR codes, with the intention of solving the errors presented by drivers at the transfer station in the process of converting containers and shipping destinations.

· Add a driver practitioner

In fact, SLOC's business began with DENSO's in-house startup competition "DIVE", and Mr. Nomura's team won the grand prize for this project. In the early stage, in the process of discussing the implementation of SLOC, the team conducted a detailed inquiry and investigation of the drivers engaged in logistics transportation, from which they learned about the grim situation faced by the logistics profession.

Therefore, DENSO expects to play a role in improving the working environment of drivers and creating a new form of logistics that young people will be interested in. After repeated empirical experiments, SLOC is finally up and running, and now it is now being operated by a small number of companies, and DENSO expects more companies to join as collaborating partners in the future, which is expected to complete the scale, add transit addresses, and improve the matching accuracy.

· Use the advantages of technology to boost SLOC

"Denso will make full use of its technological advantages to promote the SLOC channel," said Mr. Suzuki, who is conducting a demonstration experiment for commercial truck driving in Singapore, "Autonomous driving is mainly used in factories, equipment, and trunk lines, and this is an environment that can be protected and controlled to a certain extent, so when I learned that SLOC separates the main line and branch lines to match logistics, I think this is a service that is in line with automatic driving." · Help to complete the future of harmony between people, logistics and the environment

The promotion of SLOC will also help improve environmental issues and help achieve carbon neutrality. In the future, if trucks stop empty, it is estimated that about 400 tons of CO2 emissions can be reduced per year based on two trips per day.
