OTC robots need to adjust the belt tension once a year or every 3000 hours, whichever is shorter. This article takes the OTC robot B4 (B4L) as an example to explain the adjustment methods and precautions.
The timing belt of the OTC robot B4\B4L is located between the motor and the reduction gear, which is used to drive the J5 axis. Timing belts must be loaded with the appropriate tension to meet the requirements for smooth transmission.
Follow the instructions below to adjust the timing belt tension of each axis of the OTC robot B4\B4L.
When making adjustments, be careful not to idle the pulleys of the OTC robot B4\B4L, as the origin may be offset in this case and need to be readjusted.
We should follow these steps:
(1) After removing the upper arm cover of the OTC robot B4\B4L, you can see the exposed timing belt, as shown in the figure below:
(2) Loosen the three bolts (M5x10) that fix the motor, rotate the motor frame around the cylindrical pin, and adjust the belt tension.
Regarding the adjustment method of the tension of the OTC robot B4\B4L, as shown in the figure, the J5 axis timing belt of the OTC robot B4\B4L is pressed with the force shown in the above table until the deflection specified in the following table is reached.
(3) When the specified deflection value is reached, re-lock the motor fixing bolts with a tightening torque of 7.3 mm, and then apply LOCKTITE locking agent to these bolts to prevent the bolts from loosening.
Pay attention to the installation direction of the B4\B4L timing belt of the OTC robot. The belt inside the motor end pulley is located on the underside of the upper arm front pulley, while the belt outside the motor end pulley is located on the upper side of the upper arm front pulley.
(4) After successfully completing all the adjustments of the OTC robot B4\B4L, apply an appropriate amount of sealant to the entire circumference of the outer cover mounting surface, and then reinstall the upper arm cover.
To adjust the tension of the B4\B4L timing belt of the OTC robot, the following three points must be noted:
1. Don't get caught in moving parts.
2. Improper adjustment of belt tension may damage the belt.
3. Belt breakage may cause the robotic arm to fall off.
