The popularity of frequency converters has brought significant energy savings to industrial applications. However, the high-frequency switching signal generated by the inverter is easy to cause electromagnetic interference and affect the power quality. Especially in industries with large loads such as lifting and elevators, it is becoming more and more obvious.

At this time, Delta's active front-end products, an excellent partner of the inverter, are needed.

It can greatly eliminate the harmonics of the inverter through real-time three-phase current monitoring and automatic compensation, effectively improve the system power, and feed back the rising energy of the four-quadrant operation of the inverter to the power grid for reuse, so as to complete a higher level of system stability and energy saving and consumption reduction.

A well-known power plant in central China has recently added two floating crane vessels to meet the high-load power generation demand in central China.

Floating crane vessels are lightweight, occupy a small area, and operate sensitively, but they also consume a lot of power at the same time as high production power. To this end, the power plant selected Delta's active front-end AFE2000 series to carry out energy-saving transformation for the frequency conversion system of floating crane ships, which has achieved significant results.

In the operation of the floating crane ship, when the unloaded hook rises or the hook loaded with goods falls, the motor is driven to run into a generator condition, and the system will generate generated electricity. When the energy feedback unit is not installed, the regenerative power is consumed by the braking unit to convert the electrical energy into heat energy. This method not only does not make full use of the energy, but the thermal energy generated by the braking unit will also cause the temperature of the machine room to rise, add the load of the air conditioning system, and even affect the life of the machine.

In order to improve the power utilization rate and the service life of the machine, Delta installed an active front-end AFE2000 series on the two hoisting motors of the floating crane ship of the power plant, and when the system generates generated electricity, the electric energy generated by the motor is fed back to the power grid through the AFE2000 series to complete energy reuse.

According to the actual measurement of the system, when the AFE2000 series is not installed, the power consumption for a product handling is 33.7kWh, and the feedback power is 0kWh, and after the installation of the AFE2000 series, the system consumes 32.15kWh, but the other 9.36kWh of electricity is fed back to the grid for reuse, which is equivalent to 29% of the power saving effect, and the results are very obvious.

In addition, the automatic filtering function of the AFE2000 series can correct the distortion wave generated by the inverter to a normal sine wave, reduce the total harmonic distortion rate (THD) of up to 26% in the original system to less than 5%, and adjust the power factor to more than 99%, greatly reducing the virtual power and increasing the power consumption.

By selecting Delta's active front-end AFE2000 series, the power plant successfully renovated its two new floating crane vessels to achieve energy-saving results, not only achieved outstanding energy-saving results and reduced costs, but also set an outstanding example of environmental protection in the trend of energy conservation and carbon reduction.
