ABB is providing an end-to-end solution for installing and connecting electric vehicle (EV) chargers to the grid.
ABB is supporting Vattenfall, a leading European energy company, in the development of an integrated EV charging network in Sweden, providing a complete solution including fast charging stations and all necessary grid connection hardware. ABB's technology is now charging Vattenfall's electric vehicles in nearly 40 public spaces in Sweden.
As part of Vattenfall's strategy, the company is installing EV chargers across Sweden. ABB technology ensures that the power station provides the reliability required by the driver and the durability required by the harsh winter conditions in Sweden.
Frank Muehlon, Global Business Leader of EV Infrastructure Solutions at ABB, said: "For electric vehicles to thrive, drivers need fast charging stations with reliable power connections. ABB was able to offer it as an end-to-end solution, which is why we are a leading brand in EV charging and a key factor in our work for Vattenfall. Our technical support capabilities and our ability to deliver in a very short time frame puts ABB ahead of the competition. ”
Björn Öster, Public Charging Manager at Vattenfall e-mobility Nordic, said: "Vattenfall and ABB have a long history of working together. Together, we have a proven track record of introducing fast chargers to the public EV market with turnkey solutions – ABB provides our hardware and grid connectivity devices, which we install and connect to the public network InCharge makes it possible for EV drivers to find and use it in a smooth way".
Vattenfall is using ABB's DC 50kW Terra fast charging station, which provides fast charging in 30 to 45 minutes for the most common battery sizes. ABB Terra uses open standards to provide future-proof connectivity and remote monitoring and remote assistance capabilities through the ABB AbilityTM platform.
The reliable performance of ABB's solutions makes it the preferred supplier of outdoor power supplies. ABB's complete power distribution solution provides the reliable grid connectivity needed for public EV charging stations. The solution includes a rugged outdoor cabinet, busbars, fuses, and switches, all of which are specifically designed to meet the needs of outdoor environments.
The grid connectivity solution is tested and validated as a complete system to meet regulatory requirements for public network distribution and is fully assembled at ABB's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Allings, Sweden. It provides a secure, intelligent connection to the public grid, ensuring that the charging station provides a lifetime of reliable service for the driver. The fully assembled EV charger grid-connected solution also minimizes on-site commissioning time and accelerates delivery of short project lead times.
It is finished in customer-specified hues to match the EV charger and also contains a dedicated space for the billing meter.
ABB is a global leader in electric vehicle infrastructure, providing a full range of charging and electrification solutions for electric vehicles, electric and hybrid buses, as well as ships and railways. ABB entered the EV charging market back in 2010 and today sells more than 13,000 ABB DC fast chargers in 77 countries, of which more than 2,000 are 150-450 kW high-power charging systems for cars and buses. As the title partner of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship and the official charging partner of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY series, ABB is committed to supporting and expanding the future of smart and sustainable mobility.
