1. The relationship between the specifications of the relay and the installation location
For different star/triangle control positions, the specifications of the selected thermal relays are also different. As shown in Figure 1, the current setting value of the selected thermal relay is equal to the rated current value of the protected motor. In Figure 2, the setting value of the selected thermal relay current should be 1/3 of the rated current value of the protected motor.
2. Reset form
Thermal relays generally have two reset forms: manual reset and automatic reset. The conversion of these two reset forms can be completed with the help of the adjustment of the reset screw, and the manufacturer generally sets the automatic reset state when the thermal relay leaves the factory. When in use, whether the thermal relay should be set to manual reset or automatic reset state depends on the specific situation of the control loop. Under normal circumstances, the principle that even if the thermal relay automatically resets after the thermal relay protection action, the protected motor should not automatically restart, otherwise the thermal relay should be set to a manual reset state. This is to prevent the motor from being restarted many times to damage the equipment if the fault is not eliminated. For example, the control circuit of manual start and manual stop controlled by button is generally adopted, and the thermal relay can be set to automatic reset; An automatic starting circuit with automatic element control should set the thermal relay to a manual reset form.
3. For the selection of thermal relays with different rated current levels but the same adjustment range of thermal components
For example, the JR16 series thermal relay, in the rated current of 20A and 60A two grades, the setting value of the thermal element has an adjustment range of 14A-16A, at this time, the ambient temperature of the thermal relay used and the ambient temperature of the protected motor should be checked. When the ambient temperature of the thermal relay is higher than the ambient temperature of the protected motor by more than 15 °C, a thermal relay with a larger rated current level should be used; When the ambient temperature of the thermal relay is lower than 15°C below the ambient temperature of the motor being protected, a thermal relay with a lower rated current level should be used. In addition, the load of the motor and the range of adjustments that the thermal relay may need should be taken into account.
4. It is used for the adjustment of the setting current during the overload protection of the motor for repeated short-time work
In the field of many tests, adjustments, in order to get more reliable protection. The method is to adjust the setting current of the thermal relay to slightly smaller than the rated current of the motor, and if it is found to be operating frequently, then gradually increase the setting value of the thermal relay until the operation requirements are met.
5. Selection of connecting wires
The connection wire of the thermal relay is too thick or too thin will also affect the normal operation of the thermal relay, because the thickness of the connecting wire is different, so that the heat dissipation is different, which will affect the current thermal effect of the thermal relay. The selection of connecting wires for various specifications of thermal relays can be used according to the manufacturer's instructions or the electrician's manual.

Peel Magnetic Relays – Difference Between Voltage Relays and Current Relays
1. The difference between the structure of current relay and voltage relay
The main thing is that the coils are different.
The coil of the current relay is connected in series with the load to reflect the load current, so its coil turns are small and the wire is thick, so that the voltage drop when passing through the current is very small, and it will not affect the load circuit.

Peel magnetic relay – the difference between a transistor and a relay output PLC
1. The overload capacity of the transistor is less than the overload capacity of the relay
In general, in the case of a large inrush current (e.g., bulbs, inductive loads, etc.), the transistor overload capability is smaller, and more derating is required.
2. Under the condition of rated operation, the relay has the number of actions ...
