On World Electric Vehicle Day (9 September), drivers from more than 60 countries made a strong commitment to transition to electric vehicles
As part of World Electric Vehicle Day, an online pledge campaign launched by ABB and Green.TV encourages drivers to recognise the critical role electric vehicles (EVs) can play in advancing sustainable mobility and to commit to the next vehicle they drive will be electric.
The results so far have shown which countries are in the driver's seat when it comes to taking action. The United Kingdom currently leads the way with a 29% registration rate. This is followed by India (13%) and United States (11%).
ABB's major partnership with World Electric Vehicle Day expands on the company's existing ABB FIA Formula E championship winning partnership – the world's first global all-electric racing series. ABB Formula E aims to advance electric vehicles by accelerating technological innovation in a competitive environment.
· Mehta, President of ABB Electrification, commented: "Today marks an important milestone in the history of electric vehicles as the world's first Electric Vehicle Day. As a key partner, ABB is pleased to see so many people from all over the world taking positive action by signing commitments. ”
"At ABB, we are committed to inspiring drivers towards a sustainable electric future. That's why we've launched ABB's fleet electrification pilot program, starting with United Kingdom, with other countries, including Netherlands, to follow. ”
World Electric Vehicle Day has attracted many partners and industry leaders to celebrate the progress made in electric vehicles and accelerate efforts to provide more support for electric vehicles. The online event offered virtual workshops on important topics, including green recovery and electric vehicle marketing. Through social media and Worldevday.org, the event provides a useful hub for EV resources and insights driving an electric future.
Ade Thomas, founder of Green.TV, said: "The rapid transition to electrified, sustainable mobility has never been more urgent. On World Electric Vehicle Day, we want to help inspire and highlight the need to decarbonise transport, and encourage everyone to see EV as a way to continue to build prosperity, promote access, and provide sustainable lifestyles. ”
As a global leader in electric vehicles, ABB is committed to driving innovation in the field and supporting greater adoption of electric vehicles. ABB has unrivalled expertise in electrification and has sold more than 14,000 DC fast chargers in more than 80 countries. ABB recently received the 2019 Global Electric Vehicle Leader Award for its role in supporting the international adoption of sustainable mobility solutions.
