Function and function
Together with the Central Research Institute of Development Technology, the Nagano R&D Center is responsible for the research and development of HDD spindle motors for HDDs, which are the backbone products of Japan Denco (Nidec). HDD, as the protagonist of computer recording media, has a broader market in the era of big data, and is still increasing the recording density at a rate of 30-40% per year. HDD spindle motors are the core functions of HDDs as hard disk drive devices, and Japan Denco (Nidec) has a global market share of 80% in the HDD spindle motor market. In particular, the Nagano R&D Center is engaged not only in the development and design of products, but also in the production of prototypes, support for the start-up of mass production, automation of production lines, process improvement and systematization of efficiency. The spindle motor for HDDs developed by the Nagano R&D Center has been mass-produced at various plants in Thailand, the Philippines, and China.

Spindle motor for HDD
The Nagano Technical Center and the Central R&D Center have jointly developed the world's first 7 mm thick spindle motor for HDDs that can be installed in ultrabooks and tablets, and are developing new products ahead of their competitors. In addition, as thinning HDDs are required to have semiconductor-level dimensional accuracy and a clean environment, the Nagano Technical Center is further developing the experimental environment and various analytical equipment and laboratory equipment required in the fields of picogram and nanometers, including trace element analyzers.
