Position detection technology Zignear's® specialty
Japan Denco developed Zignear® by developing position detection technology using magnets attached to motors and general-purpose electronic components.
In the past, for brushless DC motors, it was difficult to accurately detect the position due to the installation of magnetic sensors (usually Hall sensors) and the "variation" in sensitivity, so Japan Denco developed an algorithm to correct the "deviation" and succeeded in improving the accuracy of position detection by using a general-purpose microcomputer.
Zignear's® specialties are, "low price", "small size", and "various output formats". Regarding position accuracy, position error: mechanical angle less than ±0.1° at ambient temperature: -40 to 125°C (tested as of October 2020). With Zignear®, high-precision and responsive motor control is possible, and it can now be used in equipment such as sewing machines.
Regarding the "small size" of one of the features, as shown in the figure below, it is used by attaching a Zignear® substrate to the motor. A typical donut shape can be adapted to small spaces with an outer diameter of about 30 mm and a thickness of about 2 mm.
Next, regarding the "various output formats", the output can be arbitrarily selected by setting Zignear® by utilizing the general-purpose microcomputer ABZ phase output, in which the output format of the optical encoder outputs position information, as well as serial communication, voltage output, and PWM, etc., which are common in magnetic encoders.
An example of the application of the position detection technology Zignear®
As an application product with Zignear®, we will present an example of a prototype stepper motor for a sewing machine, as well as a demonstration video of a brushless DC motor equipped with Zignear®. When feeding the sewing machine, the stepper motor is required to repeat the high-speed forward and reverse rotation, and by accurately outputting the angle and being able to respond at high speed, we have confirmed that the sewing machine can work properly. In addition, we are considering installing Zignear® in motors used in industrial robots, AGVs (automated guided vehicles), power tools, etc., and are conducting demonstration experiments. Zignear® is the ideal solution for the customer's product.
