The trend in the automotive industry is to save energy or reduce the environmental burden. In this trend, the electrification of automobiles is developing rapidly, and in addition to the electrification of power steering systems and oil pumps, new ways of transmitting power to core components of automobiles have also been introduced.

Among transmissions, the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) is attracting attention. The DCT has an odd/even-numbered, dual-system clutch and gear, which are interconnected to the dual systems, and the time required to change gears is extremely short in order to perform upshifts and downshifts, and it is characterized by a significant reduction in fuel consumption without the loss caused by torque converters like conventional automatic transmissions (ATs). In response to the trend of improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental loads in the automotive industry, this technology has rapidly spread by adopting DCTs not only in cars, buses, trucks, etc., but also in two-wheeled vehicles.

The clutch gears of the dual system are switched between odd and even segments to perform a DCT with fast speed changes. There are no slip losses caused by torque converters.

DCT relies on a motor to drive the hydraulic pump, and is divided into an electric hydraulic type that uses an electromagnetic directional control valve to switch the oil pressure, and a pure electric method that directly uses the motor to drive the drive point, the former has advantages in terms of cost, and the latter has advantages in terms of efficiency and responsiveness. However, in the pure electric mode, four motors are mounted around the clutch gears to drive two clutches and two shifts, making it necessary to make the motor smaller and more efficient in a limited space such as the engine room. In addition, when the clutch is off, the current is always active in the motor, the motor itself heats up, and the engine also transfers heat, and the temperature can easily rise, so heat dissipation measures are required.

Since it is installed in the limited space of the engine room, it is necessary to use a small/high-output motor as much as possible.

In order to reduce the heat generation of the motor, it is necessary to wrap as thick copper wire as possible. In addition, the high output is related to the number of coil wounds. Therefore, the DCT motor uses a split core to maximize the utilization of space between the cores. In addition, in order to make the electronic circuit mounting method as compact as possible in consideration of the heat dissipation design, we have also put a lot of effort into selecting grease to ensure smooth operation from the low temperature zone to the high temperature zone. Not only that, but in addition to heat dissipation, it is also necessary to ensure the functions required for automotive applications, such as vibration resistance, water resistance, and rust resistance. In the future, we will continue to develop products with stronger performance and more cost-effective products, analyze the growing demand for electrification in the automotive field, and expand our business to include start-stop motors that support start-stop systems other than DCTs.

In addition to motor heat generation, an electronic circuit is installed on the other side of the engine to minimize the effects of heat generation in order to prevent heat transfer from the engine.
