In recent years, the Japan Electric Power Group has been developing more and more modular products that combine structural parts such as fans, gears, and automotive applications, as well as motors and motor peripheral parts such as sensors and drives. In the course of this development, the combination of parts and performance evaluation on a PC screen was realized through the design of 3D data and simulation calculations, but there were still many problems that had not yet been addressed, such as having to get the prototype in hand to be confirmed.
In order to realize rapid prototyping immediately and at low cost, we have introduced 3D printers that can perform resin and metal molding, such as rapid prototyping technology. From design to prototype, we carry out all in-house production, which effectively shortens the development cycle.

By introducing a 3D printer, it is possible to obtain a prototype made of solid shapes and materials close to the product at an early stage of development. During design review, problems with shapes that cannot be detected with 3D data or drawings can be identified as points before the mold is made. This reduces design changes and shortens development cycles. It can quickly move on to the next process and achieve rapid optimization of the design. In particular, it is a great advantage that streamlined fans and in-vehicle parts with complex shapes can be evaluated in terms of their actual shape at the design stage.
By reviewing designs at an early stage of development using solid shapes and materials that are close to the product, it is possible to eliminate problems with shapes that cannot be detected through 3D data and drawings, thereby shortening the development cycle.
It is necessary not only to confirm the shape, design, and performance of the product in the development process, but also to make full use of it in the presentation to the customer. In addition, rapid prototyping can be used for pre-verification of in-house manufacturing departments and mass production processes, verification of jigs, and pre-adjustment of measuring and inspection equipment, contributing not only to the quality improvement of the R&D department, but also to the quality improvement of the manufacturing department and inspection department. There are many possibilities for rapid prototyping technology, and it is necessary to further expand the scope of its application in order to realize the entire process from the development and design of the entire motor and module to trial production in a shorter period of time and with higher precision, and to realize the construction of a comprehensive rapid prototyping system, which makes it possible to develop rapidly that far exceeds the needs of customers.
