Became a Champion Collaborator at E-Prix New York on July 10-11, reinforcing the long-standing promise of an all-electric series as a global technology leader.

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to New York City for the fourth time, racing on the tough concrete of Red Hook Speedway, Brooklyn. Next weekend's double-headed event will follow strict COVID-19 protocols, which have been drawn up under the guidance of the relevant authorities to allow them to be conducted in a safe and responsible manner.

The track zigzags around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in the heart of the Red Hook community and offers views through Buttermilk Channel, Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. The 14-turn, 2.32-kilometre track combines high-speed corners, straights and hairpin corners to create an exciting street circuit where 24 drivers will test their skills.

ABB's championship collaboration with New York City's E-Prix builds on its existing all-electric FIA World Championship championship collaboration and will be rolled out citywide, including on billboards in Times Square, where a Formula E car will also be taken to the pre-race street.

Theodor Swedjemark, ABB's Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer, noted: "United States is ABB's largest store, with 20,000 employees in all 50 states. Since 2010, ABB has significantly expanded its footprint in the United States by investing more than $14 billion in plant expansions, oasis development and acquisitions to accelerate the adoption of electric cars and electrification. Our participation in ABB New York City E-Prix is not just a competition, it is an opportunity to test and develop electronic technologies that will accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy, invent high-paying United States jobs, impact innovation, and mitigate the effects of climate change. ”

ABB has been a leader in electric sedans for more than a decade, especially in the United States, working with sedan OEMs, charging network operators and utilities to advance interoperability and accelerate the deployment of electric sedans across all vehicle types.

Bob Stojanovic, ABB's North American Electric Car Infrastructure Director, noted: "ABB is fully committed to the future of electric cars in United States through a positive product roadmap, strong collaborative partnerships across industries, and a sustainable entrepreneurial spirit. We are now developing megawatt-scale charging solutions for heavy-duty vehicles, ensuring open specifications to facilitate interoperability, and future-proof technologies to satisfy every mobile application. ”

Over the past decade, ABB has deployed more than 3,000 DC fast chargers in the United States, supplying bus and fleet charging systems to Portland, Los Angeles, St. Louis and other cities in the United States. The company also led the electric car infrastructure in a series of firsts in the United States, including the first public CCS charger in the United States (2013), the first 150-kilowatt charger (2017), and the first 350-kilowatt charger utilizing liquid-cooled cable technology, Terra HP (2018).

In addition to the chargers themselves, ABB also supplies total solutions for electric cars, including seamless on-site electrification, including integrated battery storage, energy and load handling, or grid services with bidirectional charging. All of ABB's EV charging solutions are cloud-connected, enabling intelligent connectivity and long-distance services to improve uptime and availability, which is critical for network and fleet managers.

ABB's drive to electrify transport isn't just on the road. ABB powers the Maid of the Mist, the first all-electric ferry in the United States, allowing guests to experience Niagara Falls with zero emissions and no interference from engine noise, oscillations or exhaust fumes from conventional diesel engines.

ABB is the title collaborator of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, an international racing series of all-electric single-seaters. Its technology underpins events on urban street circuits around the world. ABB entered the electric car market in 2010 and has now sold more than 400,000 electric car chargers in more than 85 stores. Over 20,000 DC fast chargers and 380,000 communication chargers, including those sold through Chargedot.
