The two-handed button is a commonly used safety start device, which is commonly used in punches, presses, cutting machines and other equipment; The purpose is to force the operator to leave the danger zone with his hands when driving the machine, so as not to come into contact with dangerous moving parts and cause safety accidents.

The "Standard Theory" of Two-Handed Control

Two-handed control is not a simple control of pressing two buttons, it actually has a specific relevant standard to refer to. ISO 13851 (GB/T 19671-2022 Machinery Safety – Two-handed control devices – Design and selection principles) specifies three types of two-handed control, namely Type I, Type II and Type III, which are suitable for different safety requirements and different scenarios.

When the two-hand control needs to meet the safety level of PLc or above as required by ISO 13849-1 (GB/T 16855.1), a Type III two-hand control device must be used, and its function needs to meet three key points:

1. You need to use both hands to continuously operate, release any one or both buttons, and immediately terminate the output

2. The difference between the time of both hands pressing is less than 0.5 seconds, if this time is exceeded, you need to release the two hands button and press it again

3. The output can only be triggered again after both buttons have been released (i.e., only one button is released and the output will not be executed when pressed again); In addition, for Type IIIC two-hand controls (corresponding to PLe safety class), there are also requirements for dual channels and contact fault detection

In combination with the above requirements, two-hand buttons are often used in conjunction with a dedicated two-hand button controller (two-hand button safety relay). In addition to the safety function requirements of two-hand control, there are often emergency stops, safety doors, safety gratings, etc. For applications with a high number of safety functions and complex requirements, programmable safety controllers can be used, such as our safety controllers of the PNOZ multi series; For simple applications, such as the case where there is only one emergency stop and two-hand control, it is generally necessary to match the emergency stop with a safety relay, and then realize the logical control between the emergency stop and the two-hand button through wiring.

A new concept for simple applications

For simple two-handed control applications, there is now a more flexible and efficient option – the modular safety relay MyPNOZ. It is a security solution that can be "tailored" to the user's needs.

With the online configuration tool myPNOZ Creator, users can configure the safety functions they need very quickly, intuitively and accurately, and carry out simulations to verify the logical results, as well as export hardware configuration tables and even wiring references with one click. Compared with the previous single-function safety relay, it greatly saves the time of selection and learning, improves efficiency and saves costs.

Summary of benefits:

Easy-to-operate, flexible, modular safety relays with internal combined logic

The easy-to-use myPNOZ Creator comes with a logic editor, simulations and documentation

"Pay as you go": Modules can be individually assembled

Customers receive products that are individually assembled, set up and tested and ready for commissioning

No software required (programming or configuration)

Customise myPNOZ for two-hand controlled beer machines

A simple two-hand controlled beer machine generally only involves emergency stop, two-hand control, or the safety function requirements of a safety door, and the next step is to show you the customization process of myPNOZ.

With myPNOZ Creator, the corresponding hardware configuration can be completed by selecting emergency stop, two-handed buttons, safety gates and safety outputs with a single mouse click.

Head module YH1: Emergency stop

Input module yi1: Type IIC two-hand button control, safety door

Output module YO2: Safety output*3

Logic: Three safety functions "AND" logic, release the two-handed button, shoot the emergency stop or open the safety door to immediately cut off the safety output

Simulations are used to verify the safety logic results in the case of a two-handed button press or an emergency stop triggered.

Click "Show Hardware Information" to view the technical details of each hardware module.

Quickly understand the wiring method through the wiring reference and improve the efficiency of drawing.

On the "Order Summary" page, you can export a PDF file to save all the above configuration information, wiring methods, etc.

In just a few simple steps, you can quickly and accurately match the right safety control system for your two-hand control application. Even if safety functions need to be added at a later stage, they can be added directly in myPNOZ Creator for verification and wiring reference. Doesn't that smell good?

myPNOZ is even more powerful than that, with up to 12 different expansion modules to choose from, and even a simple "and" or "or" logical combination, partition control, etc.
