Pilz's new electronic access system, the PITreader card unit, can be used to manage machine access flexibly and securely. With the PITreader card unit, the operator can now assign permissions in the form of cards or stickers on the RFID transponder.
Machine operators have their own permissions on the transponder and authenticate themselves on the PITreader card device in order to access the plant or machine. In this way, users are guaranteed the security of their industrial information and have greater flexibility when managing access rights. At the same time, it also meets the requirements for the selection of functional safety operating modes.
One key card, multiple functions
RFID transponders are available in freely writable or pre-configured versions. The PITreader card has a transparent window that allows the user to still read the status LEDs on the access control system when the card is held up. If the company is already using RFID-enabled cards, these cards can also be used with the PITreader card unit: in this case, the user only needs one card to achieve multiple functions. This saves time on certification at the plant or on the machine, making it a very flexible and easy-to-manage solution. With the introduction of the PITreader S card unit, Pilz is also introducing a version that integrates the OPC UA standard for optimum security and connectivity.
Easy permission management
Administrators manage user settings, blocklists and user data on transponder keys, cards or stickers via a graphical interface on the corresponding software solution PIT Transponder Manager (PTM) from Pilz. With pre-configured templates, individual user permissions can be written to the RFID transponder in just a few steps. With the import function, information can be quickly imported directly into the integrated database, saving administrators a lot of time. If a company uses several reader units, the PITreader, these units can be organized using the User Authentication Service (UAS) software tool.
The PITreader reader unit can be effectively combined with Pilz's configurable small controller PNOZmulti 2 or automation systems PSS4000 to control access rights and select safe operating modes. As a result, a complete solution contributes to greater safety in many processes.
