From 8 to 10 November 2022, at the SPS trade fair for intelligent production solutions in Nuremberg, Pilz will focus on automation solutions for safety and industrial security in plants and machinery under the theme "Safe and reliable".
Safe and cost-effective control solutions
As the heart of plants and machines in efficient and flexible automation projects, safety controllers must manage a wide range of functions in a safe, reliable and performance-oriented manner. In Nuremberg, we will be presenting the latest safe and cost-effective solution for small machines in the small controller PNOZmulti 2 series: With a width of only 22.5 millimeters and an extremely narrow stand-alone base unit PNOZ m C0, the construction characteristics of a safety relay are just as powerful as a configurable safety controller. In addition, the new secure key manager on the free-standing base unit encrypts device data and configurations, ensuring industrial security.
Secure access: Streamlined, intelligent key management
When access management issues arise, a higher level of security is required: an intuitive operating system that only authorized personnel can access the application is essential for closed machines and complex factories with hazardous areas. At its booth, Pilz showed how users can be supported by digital locking/marking. The "key in the pocket" prevents the operator from restarting the machine without permission during maintenance. One or more users authenticate on the reader unit PITreader using an RFID transponder key. Each person is assigned a separate security ID, which is stored centrally in the security controller. Once the maintenance work is complete, all personnel will be logged out and the security ID entry will be removed from the security list. This prevents the machine from being tampered with and prevents the operator from accidentally restarting it.
Mobile security – industrial security is now also possible
Safety and security must never stop in a mobile app; The capacity of logistics must be optimally balanced with safety – whether using rail-guided vehicles or free-navigating AGVs. At the trade fair, Pilz will be presenting its new portfolio of solutions for the protection of AGVs: including safe area monitoring for collision protection of humans and AGVs with the safety laser scanner PSENscan, the modular safety controllers PNOZmulti 2 and myPNOZ, as well as the Industrial Firewall Safety Bridge, which is now offering tamper protection for mobile applications for the first time, so security is now also "involved"!
More flexible shielding methods
The shielding allows the material to be transported in and out of the hazardous area during the production process, thus ensuring a smooth production process. On the safety light curtain PSENopt II, the shielding function can now be configured with complete flexibility. At SPS, Pilz will be presenting new shielding strips, which are mounted horizontally on the safety light curtain PSENopt II. Thanks to the fine grid setting, the sensors on the shield strip can be positioned individually with complete freedom. As a result, users can configure the most diverse protection areas – using L-, T-, and X-shielding – and carry out "their" requirements at any time. By using shielding strips, production processes in the packaging industry, and even logistics, can be designed to be more efficient and thus avoid unnecessary downtime.

Peel magnetic relay - the selection principle of electromagnetic relays
1. Selection of relay coil application power supply
Under normal circumstances, most of the relays of direct current are selected in the circuit design, and the types of power supplies used in relays can also be considered according to the characteristics of the control circuit. Secondly, it is necessary to think about the power consumed by the relay, and assume that the relay coil is supplied ...

Pilz: Determined by the harmonised service provider of EU standards
EU standards have no legal significance in themselves. However, it acquires legal status after publication in the Official Journal of the European Union or citation in domestic laws and regulations. The publication of these harmonized standards will result in a "presumption of conformity". As a result, users who adopt the standard can assume that their actions are in compliance with laws and directives. If it happens ...

Pilz: IEC 62443 – Industrial Information Security Standard (Part II)
In the context of industrial automation, the term "safety" refers to the functional safety of equipment, which means that people and the environment are protected from damage from foreseeable coercion from machines, and the residual risk is more or less always present, but the residual risk cannot exceed the acceptable level. Through the use of security relay ...

Common faults of Pilz safety relays with contacts and how to deal with them
The most common ones are the following:
(1) Contact failure
1. The phenomenon that cannot be disconnected due to mechanical occlusion of the contact (the needle-like protrusion formed on the contact and the pit biting each other), fusion welding, or cold welding.
2. Due to the contact resistance becoming large and unstable, the circuit cannot be normal ...

Peel magnetic relays - an introduction to the classification of relays and their functions
1. The role of intermediate relays
It plays the role of converting and transmitting control signals, that is to say, its input signal is the energizing and power-off signal of the coil, and the output signal is the contact action of the intermediate relay. Essentially, it is a type of voltage relay ...
