Structure of a resistive sensor

The structure of a resistive sensor consists of two basic parts: a resistive element and a brush (movable contact). The motion of the brushes in relation to the resistive element can be linear, rotational, and spiral, thus converting the linear or angular displacement into a resistive or voltage output that is a definite function of it. The following is the structure and information of the potentiometer:

1. Resistance wires: constantan wires, platinum-iridium alloys and Kama wires, etc

2. Electric brushes: silver, platinum iridium, platinum rhodium and other metals are commonly used

3. Skeleton: Commonly used materials are ceramics, phenolic resins, cloth bakelite and other insulating materials, and the structure of the skeleton is many and often rectangular.

Advantages and disadvantages of resistive sensors

Strengths of resistive sensors

1. There is a large nonlinearity and the output signal is weak, but a certain compensation method can be taken. Therefore, it is widely used in automated test and control technology.

2. The resistance strain gauge in the resistance strain sensor has the strain effect of metal, that is, the mechanical deformation is produced under the action of external force, so that the resistance value changes accordingly

Disadvantages of resistive sensors

1. There is a large nonlinearity about the large strain, but the output signal is weak.

2. With the change of time and environment, the data and equipment functions that make up the sensor will change. Therefore, it is not suitable for long-term monitoring, because the time drift and temperature drift are large, and the real and effective data may not be obtained for long-term measurement.

3. It is susceptible to the influence of electric field, magnetic field, vibration, radiation, air pressure, sound pressure, air flow, etc.
