The oil level sensor according to the resistance is mechanically connected to the float, and the float can rise or fall with the fuel level, and the resistance of the sensor changes as the float moves. The sensor used is part of the current balance circuit in the fuel gauge display circuit, and generally consists of a coil that drives the display pin. When the resistance of the oil level sensor changes, the position of the pointer changes in proportion to the coil current.
The defect of the resistive touch sensor is that the sensor simply wears and cracks due to the sliding touch inside the sensor element, and the wear and tear leads to a shortened sensor life.
In view of the shortcomings of resistive touch sensors, a method of non-touch sensing of fuel level using Hall sensors has recently been presented.
Hall oil level sensors typically rely on sensing the magnetic field passing through the IC to monitor it. For fuel sensing applications, it is necessary to install a radial magnet so that its rotational motion is proportional to the float motion. In addition, the sensor needs to be installed close to the magnet. This approach is simpler than other non-touch sensor skills. The magnet seals to prevent degradation inside the fuel. Even if the fuel is contaminated, the sensor operation will not be affected.
Hall-Effect Oil Level Sensor Options for Fuel Level Sensing:
Hall level sensors offer a variety of options for fuel level sensing applications to meet specific customer requirements in terms of accuracy, linearity, output interface, and cost.
1. Linear Hall-effect sensor
Linear Hall-effect sensors have an output signal that shares with a positive magnetic field, and the output voltage varies with the magnetic field.
A. PWM output: PWM output has advantages such as better immunity to interference. These types of sensors are suitable for use in combination according to the interspersed coil (cross-coil).
B. Analog voltage: In a digital combination, a microcontroller is typically used to interface the LCD and sensor outputs. The analog input voltage from the sensor is used as the ADC input to the microcontroller. These ICs operate from either 3.3V or 5V supplies and share the power supply.
Two-point programming provides compensation for changes in magnets and air gaps. Allegro also offers multi-point programming to get used to irregular cabinet geometries.
2. Viewpoint Hall-effect sensors
The viewpoint sensor relies on the magnetic field to affirm the viewpoint and obtain a measured value. This eliminates errors caused by magnet and air gap changes.
A. PWM output: PWM output ICs have many advantages, such as better anti-interference capabilities and the ability to connect directly to the automotive battery.
B. Analog voltage: The analog output voltage supplied by the sensor IC in proportion to the viewpoint
