Automatic assembly of high-precision transmissions – KUKA robots

Each sensor on the seven axes of the KUKA robot LBR IIWA records everything that touches with the partner to ensure safety when assembling the DQ 200 automatic transmission, which requires several high-precision tasks in the manufacture of the transmission. This is not news for Škoda Auto. Škoda Auto is a Czech car manufacturer founded in 1895 under the name Laurin & Klement. Headquartered in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic Mlada ·, the company was acquired by Škoda Works in 1925 and became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mass Car Group in 2000.

Škoda's plant in Vrchlabi produces cars and complete vehicle bodies. The first model assembled there was the Škoda Tudor, followed by many others, including rare special editions as well as luxury and utility vehicles.

Automatic assembly of high-precision transmissions – KUKA robots

At the beginning of 2011, Dazhong decided to transform the 1,000-employee factory into a factory that would rigorously assemble the innovative DQ 200 inline transmission automatic transmission. This seven-speed gearbox is used in Škoda vehicles as well as in models of other group brands. Production of this product began in October 2012 with a daily production capacity of 1,000 units, but by the end of 2013 it had increased to 1,500 units.

A collaborative robot – the KUKA robot LBR IIWA 7 R800 – has been added to the plant to work alongside the assemblers. According to Michael Oeljeklaus, Production Director at Škoda, the mission of the KUKA robot is to pierce the gear actuator piston into the gearbox. Piston penetration is a delicate process that requires the positioning of **. Oeljeklaus says: "For our employees, the previously complex production steps have become easier and safer. "With robots, we've come a long way in digitizing our production. Our [factories] are getting closer and closer. ”

Each sensor on the robot's seven axes records all touches with its partner to ensure its safety during the gearbox assembly process. The robot is light and agile (23.9 kg) with a payload of 7 kg and 800 mm spacing. The repeatability is ±0.1 mm. It has an IP54 rating, has a sunrise cabinet controller, and can be installed on floors, ceilings, or walls.

KUKA also manufactured the larger type 14 R820, which has a payload of 14 kg and a large effect interval of 820 mm. The repeatability is ±0.15 mm. The sedan manufacturer has invested 25 million euros in Vrchlabi, where it produces almost 1 million gearboxes. The company plans to increase production to 2,000 units per day next month.

Skoda's conversion of Vrchlabi went unnoticed. AT Kearney, a European trading magazine production and consulting firm, named the plant the 2015 Plant of the Year in recognition of its outstanding operations around the world. Vrchlabi was evaluated on five criteria: value added, customer satisfaction, quality, innovation and efficiency. Each sensor on each axle records all the touches with the partner to ensure safety when assembling the DQ 200 automatic transmission.

1. Degrees of freedom and degrees of freedom are the main goals to measure the level of robotics. The so-called degrees of freedom refer to the independent motion of moving parts relative to a fixed coordinate system. Each degree of freedom requires a servo axis to drive, so the higher the number of degrees of freedom, the more chaotic the robot can complete the actions ...
