Founded in 1995 in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany, KUKA Robotics GmbH is one of the world's leading manufacturers of industrial robots. KUKA Robotics has more than 20 subsidiaries worldwide, mostly sales and service centers, including: United States, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, India and most European countries. The company name, KUKA, is a combination of the four initials of Keller und Knappich Augsburg, and it is also a registered trademark for all KUKA products. KUKA was first founded in Augsburg in 1898 by Johann Josef Keller and Jakob Knappich. Initially, the main focus was on indoor and urban lighting. Soon after, however, the company expanded into other areas (welding tools and equipment, large containers) and in 1966 the company became the market leader for municipal vehicles in Europe. In 1973, the company developed its first industrial robot called FAMULUS. At that time, KUKA was part of the Quandt Group, and the Quandt family withdrew in 1980. The company becomes a public company. In 1995, KUKA Robotics became an independent company from KUKA Welding & Robotics GmbH, which was part of the KUKA Welding Equipment GmbH (later KUKA Systems GmbH) and the KUKA AG (formerly the IWKA Group). Today, KUKA focuses on state-of-the-art automation solutions for industrial production processes. In January 2017, Chinese home appliance company Midea Group successfully acquired a 94.55% stake in Germany robot company KUKA, headquartered in Augsburg, Germany, the company's main customers are from the field of automobile manufacturing, but its application in other industrial fields is becoming more and more extensive. |
