The logistics industry has always been a strong area for SICK, in response to the detection of various types of goods on different conveyor lines and the diverse needs of customers, SICK has launched a series of photoelectric sensors such as G6, Z18, W16, W26 and Ray26 - which can stably detect cartons, baskets, uneven appearance, transparent bottles, laminated packaging and flexible packaging food and drugs.
However, almost all of the above solutions are retroreflective optoelectronic products, which requires customers to install additional or even customized brackets, and regularly clean and maintain the reflectors and sensors.
In response to these situations, SICK has launched a new Roller Sensor Bar (RSB).
1. Product overview
Features & Parameters
Product length: 200-1200mm
Light source type: infrared
Number of spots: 2-8
Beam Distance (MDO): ≥50mm

Detection distance: 2-300mm(90%)
Operating temperature: -40 - +60°C
2. Product features
Unlike mirror-reflective optoelectronics, which requires calibration and debugging, RSB long array optoelectronics can be plug-and-play without additional debugging.
After being fixed under the conveyor belt, it can detect and identify black objects, irregular objects, highly reflective objects and transparent objects.
The maximum detection distance can reach 300mm
Customers do not need to build their own brackets, SICK provides four brackets suitable for different conveyor line structures, with the spring buckles at both ends of the RSB, which can be easily installed under the roller conveyor line and in the belt conveyor line gap.
3. Typical application scenarios
3.1 Roller conveyor line
Installed in the gap of the drum, no teach-in, no additional bracket required
Stable detection of envelopes, parcels, cartons, pallets
The maximum detection distance is 300mm
3.2 Belt conveyor line
Diffuse photoelectric, no need for mirrors and additional brackets
Plug and play, greatly reduce the cost of commissioning
Reliable detection of irregular and thin objects
3.3 Warehouses and shuttles
Installed under the drum without additional brackets and commissioning
Perform in-place inspection of the shuttle
Limit detection of goods in the shelf
4. Conveyor line detection sensor scheme
So far, SICK has launched a variety of photoelectric sensors to meet the detection needs of roller conveyor lines and belt conveyor lines, so how should you choose for different applications?
The table below serves as a simple reference for different product families to choose from depending on the application and environmental requirements, and the corresponding product series also includes a wide range of products with different output types and wiring methods.

Sick Sensor – The difference between a photoelectric sensor and a light sensor
1. Different definitions:
A light sensor is generally a device that can sensitively sense light energy from ultraviolet light to infrared light and convert the light energy into an electrical signal.
Photoelectric sensors are sensors that use an optoelectronic element as a detection element. It first converts the measured change into light ...

The main characteristics and usage methods of SICK sensors
Key Characteristics of SICK Sensors (Displacement Sensor Principle)
Nominal Resistance: The value of resistance indicated on the potentiometer.
Promise error: The ratio of the nominal resistance to the practical resistance to the nominal resistance is the resistance deviation, which indicates the accuracy of the potentiometer. Promise errors are usually made in the ± 20 ...
