Sick Sensors – Infrared Sensor Installation Requirements and Precautions

Create Date: 2024-8-30 12:03:23|Source: SICK/Sick

Infrared sensor installation requirements:

1. Infrared sensors are usually set up in areas where intruders may enter or where high-value items are stored, such as the living room, master bedroom, corridor or corridor of a general family; However, most companies usually set up sensors in computer rooms, aisles, warehouses and storage areas. Therefore, before installing the wiring and control surface tray of the sensor, it is necessary to familiarize yourself with the layout of the system to determine the optimal installation location of the sensor.

2. The installation height of the sensor is not arbitrary, which will directly affect the sensitivity of the infrared sensor and the effect of anti-small animals, and the installation height of the wall-mounted infrared sensor is generally 2.0-2.2 meters.

3. It is not suitable to face glass doors and windows, there will be two problems with glass doors and windows: one is white light interference, although the passive infrared sensor (PIR) has a strong suppression function for white light, but after all, it is not 100% suppression, do not face glass doors and windows, you can avoid the interference of strong light; The second is to avoid complex environmental interference outside doors and windows, such as direct sunlight, crowds, mobile vehicles, etc.

4. It is not advisable to face large objects that are easy to swing, because large objects can instantly cause sudden airflow changes in the detection area, which may also cause false alarms; For example, outdoor sensors should avoid large trees and tall shrubs.

5. It is not advisable to face the hot and cold vents or cold and heat sources, the passive infrared sensor induction effect is closely related to the change of temperature, the cold and hot vents and the cold and heat sources may cause false alarms of the sensor, and sometimes the air convection through doors and windows will also cause false alarms for some low-performance sensors.

6. The infrared probe can only be installed indoors, and its false alarm rate has a great relationship with the installation location, and the correct installation position should be 2.0-2.2 meters from the ground; Keep away from air conditioners, refrigerators, stoves, and other places where air temperature changes are sensitive.

7. The infrared probe should be installed in the corner of the room as far as possible to obtain the most ideal detection range, and there should be no partitions, furniture, large bonsai or other isolation objects within the detection range.

8. There should be no partitions, furniture, large bonsai or other isolators within the detection range as far as possible; It is best not to install two wireless infrared sensors in the same space to avoid interference due to simultaneous triggering; The infrared sensor should be at an angle to the walking line in the room, and the sensor is the least sensitive to radial movement and the most sensitive to tangential (i.e., perpendicular to the radius) movement. Choosing the right installation location in the field is an extremely important part of avoiding false alarms and achieving the best detection sensitivity of the infrared sensor.

Precautions for the use of infrared sensors:

1. According to the minimum and maximum temperatures and their durations on the prevention site, select the active infrared intrusion sensor with the appropriate working temperature; If the ambient temperature is too low, a special heater can be used to ensure the normal operation of the sensor.

2. The active infrared intrusion sensor is seriously affected by fog, and equipment with automatic gain function should be selected for outdoor use (the sensitivity of such equipment will be automatically adjusted when the climate changes); In addition, the detection distance of the selected equipment has a margin of more than 20% from the actual warning distance to reduce the false alarm of the system caused by climate change.

3. When using outdoors, be sure to choose a dual-beam or a 3-beam active infrared intrusion sensor to reduce the false alarm of the system caused by birds, fallen leaves, etc.

4. The wavelengths of the infrared light-emitting diodes used in the active infrared sensor are around 0.85 μm and 0.95 μm, respectively. The former has red exposure, and its concealment is not as good as the latter.

5. Active infrared intrusion detectors should not be used outdoors in foggy areas and areas with dirty and windy sand.

6. When using active infrared intrusion sensors in open areas or on fences and roofs, equipment with lightning protection functions should be selected.

7. When there is a broken wall and the distance is close, reflective devices can be selected to reduce the number of infrared sensors.

Infrared sensors are commonly used for non-contact temperature measurement, gas composition analysis, and non-destructive testing, and are widely used in medical, military, space technology, and environmental engineering. For example, the thermal image of the surface temperature of the human body can be measured remotely by infrared sensors, which can find the location of abnormal temperature and diagnose and treat diseases in time (see thermal imaging camera); The use of infrared sensors on artificial satellites to monitor the earth's clouds can achieve large-scale weather forecasting; Infrared sensors are used to detect overheating of engines running on aircraft, etc.
