In the digitalization stage, the first step of the development path of Industry 4.0, Sick is committed to the design and development of intelligent sensors, aiming to lay a solid hardware foundation for digital transformation.
Now, Sick has added a new member to the family of smart sensors – the magnetic corner sensor MAS.
1. Product overview
MAS is a bearingless angle sensor based on the magnetic principle, which realizes angular position measurement with non-contact detection and 12-bit resolution.
The MAS supports IO-Link communication, which digitally displays and outputs angles, and has 3 physical outputs and 3 communication outputs, including 32 configurable angle zones. IP68 protection for stable detection even in harsh field environments.
2. Working principle
The MAS consists of an induction magnet and a sensor.
When used, the magnet is installed on the axial end face of the rotary part, the part rotates to drive the magnet to rotate, and the sensor receives the rotation angle data of the magnet for positioning.
3. The main parameters of the product
4. Customers benefit
5. Industry application
Machining – magazine position detection (replacement of cam boxes)
When inspecting the position of the tool magazine of a machine tool, a small proximity switch is usually installed in the cam box to determine the position of the tool magazine by detecting whether the groove of the rotary shaft is in place.
Now using MAS, it completely replaces the cam box mechanism and saves hardware costs.
The induction magnet is installed in the center of the end face of the rotating shaft, which is detected without contact with the sensor and prolongs the service life.
At the same time, the IO-Link communication mode is used to directly output the angle measurement value, which improves the digitalization of the device.
Transportation – Gate landing position detection
Magnets and sensors are installed in the rotating part of the barrier to replace the traditional limit switch scheme.
The split design greatly extends the service life and reduces maintenance costs.
Position information can be obtained through 3 physical outputs or IO-Link, with a variety of options to improve security and intelligence.

How Sick sensors work
SICK sensors are sensors that use a photoelectric element as a detection element. It first converts the measured change into a change in the optical signal, and then further converts the optical signal into an electrical signal with the help of an optoelectronic component. Photoelectric sensors are generally composed of three parts: light source, optical path and optoelectronic components.

Detailed explanation of fault judgment and maintenance of SICK sensors
Analysis of the factors that may cause the zero point change of the SICK sensor: overload will lead to a sudden change in the zero point, and the output resistance will obviously exceed the specified value impact, as above; Moisture return or turbidity, so it is mainly manifested as a continuous change of 0 point, high and low, etc., at this time, the ground resistance will be further reduced - in ...
