UR+ Solution

UR+ partner Wandelbots has developed a solution called Wandelbots Teaching. The solution introduces no-code teach-in technology to robot programming. Operators don't need to be programmed, but can use an input device (TracePen) and an intuitive app to teach their robot.

With the TracePen, robots can be programmed in a matter of seconds. The user only needs to hold the TracePen teaching pen and "draw" the corresponding "trajectory" to teach the robot. In the application developed by Wandelbots, the entire process of "drawing" the trajectory can be visualized in real time. Through the app, users can not only further fine-tune each trajectory point to achieve sub-millimeter accuracy, but also choose the way the robot moves between the trajectory points, such as point-to-point, linear or arc. The built-in joint control module allows the user to directly control the individual joints of the robotic arm and set a safe zone where the robot can be moved.

  How it works

Preparation for the installation of each hardware part. The Wandelbots platform needs to be connected to a robot controller. The positioning base station is used to calibrate the TracePen and locate the exact position of the pen in 3D space. For calibration, the teaching pendant is inserted into the calibration adapter fixed to the flange of the robot. Different models of calibration adapters are available for different models of robots. The IR-based single-point calibration algorithm is fully automatic in less than 30 seconds.

The first step in programming

Programming with a TracePen is more important than understanding the workflow of the entire process, rather than mastering the actual programming knowledge and skills. After the operator selects the appropriate tip of the teaching pen, he or she launches the proprietary app on the iPad. The Wandelbots app will "record and record" these sub-millimeter precision trajectory data in real time. The user can view the entire teach-in process in the app. In order to be intuitive and easy to operate, the corresponding steps have been specially optimized.

  The second step in programming

Further edit and fine-tune the corresponding process. By setting waypoints, the user can adjust the recorded teach-in trajectory in 3D space. Commonly used processes can be reused, modified and inserted into new processes. The app also allows users to split tracks and insert other elements such as IO signals, loops, or new track paths.

The third step in programming

The robot code will automatically generate the corresponding programming language, such as UR-Script scripts. This step is done automatically in a matter of seconds, so that the robot can perform the corresponding task immediately. These auto-generated codes are allowed to be edited by humans. The entire process is fully compatible with current certification and simulation processes. If required, this automatically generated code can also be converted into programming languages for other robotics platforms.

peculiarity

√ automatically generate UR-Script scripts

√ platform independence

√ nearly 90% lower cost than traditional programming methods

√ robot programming in just a few minutes

√ application scenarios: gluing, welding, cutting, grinding, polishing, spraying, quality inspection
