The working scenarios of cobots are expanding with the improvement of image processing technology. Universal Robots has added to its lineup for UR+ applications in the Chinese market with the Canon Vision Edition-U, an advanced image processing software for UR cobots. The software was developed by Canon Co., Ltd., whose core competency is optical technology, and by using this software, the application performance of UR robots will be enhanced, providing more flexible and diverse automation solutions for production workshops.

  Canon's Vision Edition-U is an image processing software for UR robots. Combined with Canon's network cameras, this software acts as the robot's "eyes" to enable fast and accurate matching patterns and automatically perform visual inspection and image processing across the entire range of motion of the robot arm. For example, in the pick-and-place operation of robot parts, image processing can be used to find and prevent job omission; When the robot places the parts on the scale, image processing is used to recognize the weight displayed in the digital display and confirm whether the standard is met, which creates added value for the cobot operation.

UR+VISION EDITION application scenarios

After placing the parts on the pallet, Universal Robots can perform multiple image processing with a single network camera, and check the number of parts and the value of the weight meter in the Canon vision system.

Image processing is used to analyze the in-stock condition of the part shelves, and the missing items are supplemented by Universal Robots. Universal Robots uses image processing to identify items.

Once the Universal Robots robot is placed, the camera can check the operating status of the molding machine (OK or NG) and check the status of the parts placed in the tray.
