What is a tandem bot?

Tandem robot is a type of open kinematic chain robot, which is formed by a series of connecting rods by rotating joints or moving joints in series. The driver is used to drive the movement of each joint to drive the relative motion of the connecting rod, so that the end welding torch can reach a suitable position.

What is a Delta Robot?

A parallel robot refers to a closed-loop robot that refers to a moving platform and a fixed platform, which are connected by at least two independent motion chains, and the mechanism has two or more degrees of freedom, and is driven in parallel.

The parallel robot and the traditional industrial tandem robot constitute a complementary relationship in the application, it is a closed motion chain, compared with the tandem robot, it is generally composed of the upper and lower motion platforms and two or more motion branch chains, and one or more closed-loop mechanisms are formed between the motion platform and the motion branch chain, and the whole mechanism has a plurality of operational degrees of freedom by changing the motion state of each branch chain.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a parallel robot compared to a tandem robot?

1. To put it simply, a tandem robot is like a person holding something in one hand, and a parallel robot is equivalent to two hands holding things together.

2. Tandem robots are relatively mature, with the advantages of simple structure, low cost, simple control, large movement space, etc., and have been successfully used in many fields, such as various machine tools, assembly workshops, etc.

3. Compared with tandem robots, the research of parallel robots started late, and there are still many theoretical problems that have not been solved.

4. The parallel robot has the advantages of large stiffness, strong bearing capacity, high precision, and small inertia of the end piece, and has obvious advantages compared with the tandem robot in the occasion of high speed and large bearing capacity. There have been many successful applications. Such as motion simulators, delta robots, etc.
