1. The ifm controller has a control function
Another important reference feature for the purchase of ifm controllers is the ability to control movements and other applications. Fulfillment of these functional requirements requires I/O, as well as a strong processor and the ability to prioritize missions.
Programmable Drum Switches (PDS) and Programmable Limit Switches (PLS) provide additional control functions. PDSs, such as encoders, can monitor multiple devices at rates up to 1MHz. These input signals are used to harmonize and manipulate the output at a rate of tens of thousands of times per second. This type of hardware configuration provides correct motion control, independent of the manipulator scan time, which can vary depending on the processor load.
2. The ifm controller has a data processing function
The direct recording of data into a USB storage device connected to an ifm controller is an important function and is often a requirement in many applications. The controllers with data logger functions typically support formatted USB pen drives or mini SD cards, each with up to 32GB of storage.
Data logging is generally based on scheduling. Things are triggered by condition changes, such as Boolean data condition transformations. Scheduling data records are set to be generated at regular intervals, such as minutely, hourly, daily, or monthly.
There is generally a limit to the number of symbols that can be recorded, but 50 symbol values should be configured for each scheduled or triggered piece. The fault of the system should also be stored with the time and date when the fault or thing arose. Log file names should be configurable or actively generated based on the user's preference.
3. The ifm controller has a communication function
The ifm controller should be supplied with additional communication ports for USB in/USB out, mini USB, mini SD, long-distance I/O, RS-232 and RS-485 connections. These connections enable simple programming visits, connections to drives and other devices, and integration with the monitoring of the operator's human machine interface (HMI). They also support e-mail, scanner/client and adapter/server connections, and other communication functions for long-distance visits.
The long-distance monitoring application allows the user to connect to the ifm controller using Wi-Fi or cellular network connection. By configuring user tags for long-distance visits in the tag database, long-haul users can monitor local controllers.
The other web server functions in the ifm controller allow for long-distance troubleshooting of problems via system tags, fault logs and event history, as well as long-distance user review of data files recorded to the controller's hard drive or mini SD card.

Differential pressure sensor function – ifm sensors
A differential pressure sensor is a sensor used to measure the difference between two pressures, usually used to measure the pressure difference between the front and rear ends of a device or component.
A typical application of differential pressure sensors is to measure the difference in exhaust pressure between the front and rear channels of the exhaust particulate trap of a passenger car engine.
