1. Mission needs include massiveness

Collective robots are well suited for large-scale operations, including large-scale project use. A group of robots is distributed on the scale of their respective roles and monitors the dynamics of the entire area, e.g. in real time to monitor areas contaminated with hazardous substances.

In addition to collective robots, devices such as fixed source sensors can also achieve the function of monitoring, but in contrast, collective robots will be more suitable than sensors to fulfill this type of mission, because each collective robot can dynamically patrol its own area, rather than just maintaining a fixed position. In other words, collective robots are able to achieve the intent of real-time area monitoring with fewer devices.

In addition to real-time monitoring, collective robots can also be used to search for and locate the source of contamination, move to target areas and adopt rapid real-time responses.
