As robotic systems become more and more cluttered, they are becoming more and more part of people's daily lives. But before they can be widely used, it is necessary that these robots can be tested in a mixed and unpredictable real-world environment. Panasonic recently said that the company is testing a novel robotic mobile system. It features an industry-leading intelligent following function on top of three motor-driven wheelchairs.
Many robot companies, including Panasonic, are optimistic about the broad prospects of the personal "mobile" device market.
The currently planned test is expected to open in September at a closed area at Takanawa Gateway Station in Minato-ku, Tokyo, to evaluate the device's functionality in a semi-outdoor environment.
Panasonic said that one of the three electric wheelchairs will be led by a station employee, and then the second and third robots will follow the head car in the same way as the duck.
The most important thing in the quiz is to see the robot's active braking ability. If a person passes through a convoy, it is necessary that the robotic system can sense and act accordingly (slow down or stop) and rehabilitate once the obstacle has been removed.
Panasonic's ultimate goal is to develop a mobile system that can completely eliminate the active operation of human team leaders, thus opening up a new path for increasingly cluttered use.
