Motors are divided into two categories: DC motors and AC motors, and AC motors are divided into asynchronous motors and synchronous motors, and their respective speed regulation principles are also different. According to the speed regulation requirements of the motor, it can be divided into two categories: DC power converter and AC power converter:

1) The DC power converter mainly converts the input constant alternating current into the output adjustable direct current, so it is also called adjustable current, which is used in the DC motor speed regulation system, which realizes constant torque speed regulation by changing the armature voltage, and weakens the excitation to achieve constant power speed regulation.

2) AC power converter is mainly used to convert the input constant voltage and constant frequency AC power into AC output with adjustable voltage and frequency, so it is also called frequency converter. According to the power electronic commutation mode, the inverter can be divided into alternating inverter and alternating inverter, and in the alternating inverter, there are two kinds of inverters: constant voltage source (VSI) and constant current source (CSI) according to the different energy storage elements in the DC link.
