Key points for sensor noise suppression – Turck

Filters used for suppressing sensor noise require the following conditions.

●Power or signal lines required for equipment operation

●Noise that causes maloperation

There are many types and names of OneChip sensors, and there are different filters required to deal with noise that causes malfunction.

This is due to the fact that the two conditions required for the filter are connected to the sensor.

●Power or signal lines required for equipment operation

→ unify the interface (IC leads) of OneChip sensors

●Noise that causes maloperation

→ applied noise is within the immunity test standard

The placement orientation of the filter

The placement orientation of the filter plays a good role in the proximity of the sensor.

Noise suppression measures for power lines

Noise suppression measures for power lines are suitable for filters with high penetration losses in a wide bandwidth from low to high frequencies.

In the case of capacitors alone, high-capacitance capacitors at the low frequency end and low-ESL capacitors with penetration losses at the high frequency end are required.

The combination of capacitor and inductor can significantly increase penetration loss. The sensor has enough capacity than an inductor to form a multi-segment structure, which can form an effective noise filter.

Noise suppression measures for signal lines

As a noise countermeasure for signal lines (data/clocks), it is necessary to penetrate a filter with low penetration loss at the passing signal frequency.

If the noise level is small or the frequency difference between the signal and the noise is large, it is possible to reduce the noise using only a capacitor, but if the signal frequency and noise frequency are similar, a combination of inductor and capacitor is required to create a filter with steep penetration loss.

Points to use when using inductors

When an inductor is pierced into a specific line, the line becomes unbalanced and switches to a normal mode (potential difference), and misoperation may be further exacerbated. It is important to use the same product name for the entire line when inserting inductors.

* Ferrite beads are inductive filters that not only have high impedance to block noise, but also absorb noise energy for better noise suppression.
