Honeywell is developing its next-generation JetWave satellite communications system, which will dramatically accelerate and reduce connectivity costs for in-flight high-speed broadband connectivity. The next-generation JetWave, which is scheduled to be forensic in 2023, will be able to connect to multiple networks, with the ability to connect to multiple constellations at speeds of up to 100Mb/s.
Steven Hadden, vice president of services and connectivity at Honeywell Aerospace, said:
JetWave is the benchmark for in-cabin connectivity for business jets, and now we're taking it to the next level. The new generation of JetWave will be able to connect with a new generation of high-throughput satellites, expanding the coverage of its Ka-band network. In addition, the new service plan will significantly reduce the cost of inflight connectivity.
JetWave allows passengers to enjoy fast file downloads, video conferencing and live streaming of online shows or sports during their flights, including transoceanic journeys.
The new generation of JetWave will build on this foundation to further improve the connection speed and quality of service, with an initial phase of access to Inmarsat's JetConneX Ka-band network. This will enable the previously announced JX Evolution program to improve connection speeds and service capabilities. By 2024, the next-generation JetWave is scheduled to expand to other Ka-band satellite networks through Honeywell satellite network partners, providing business jet operators with more choice and flexibility.
More than 3,000 aircraft worldwide have been installed with JetWave satellite communications systems to provide in-flight connectivity services. If existing JetWave customers choose to upgrade, they will be able to negotiate and enjoy relevant commercial benefits before the launch of the new generation in 2023.
