Shanghai, China, April 6, 2022 – The General Code for Building Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Utilization (GB55015), approved by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, has been officially implemented since April 1, 2022. The code requires that the carbon emission intensity of new residential and public buildings should be reduced by 40% on the basis of the energy-saving design standards implemented in 2016, and the carbon emission intensity should be reduced by more than 7kg/㎡ on average.
As a mandatory engineering construction specification, all provisions of the GB55015 must be strictly enforced. In addition, the new regulations also put forward new requirements for the design, construction, acceptance and operation management of building energy conservation and renewable energy building application systems for new construction, expansion and renovation of buildings, as well as existing building energy-saving renovation projects, which will be a new challenge and opportunity for the construction industry.
Recently, Li Ye, Global Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Intelligent Building Technology Group in China, expressed his views on how digital technology can empower the sustainable development of building operations in the context of the continuous introduction of building energy efficiency standards.
In China, the total carbon emissions of the whole process of buildings account for more than half of the country's total carbon emissions [1], and buildings, as the main places of social and economic activities, are facing huge challenges and opportunities for energy emission reduction. According to the requirements of the "14th Five-Year Plan for Building Energy Conservation and Green Building Development" issued by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, by 2025, more than 350 million square meters of energy-saving renovation of existing buildings will be completed, and more than 50 million square meters of ultra-low energy consumption and near-zero energy consumption buildings will be built.
In this context, on the one hand, the construction industry must find ways to meet the requirements of the new regulations, and at the same time, it will face the problem of taking into account energy saving, emission reduction and high efficiency gain, among which the intelligent and digital transformation of the construction industry may become the key to breakthrough.
Four steps of dual control of building energy and carbon: measurement-analysis-control-certification

Through complete sensing technology and a secure and open IoT gateway, Honeywell's low-carbon building solutions can accurately collect and monitor the data of various building energy consumption equipment, including electricity, water, gas, cooling and heat. In addition, based on the control experience and technology accumulated over 100 years in the field of building construction, we can also conduct comprehensive evaluation, analysis and calculation based on the collected data, implement effective building energy saving strategies, and help customers reduce energy and carbon consumption. In addition, Honeywell provides consulting services including LEED, WELL, and green building certification processes.
For a long time, Honeywell has been developing and launching low-carbon, energy-saving products and solutions for buildings. Honeywell previously announced that it will provide an integrated energy management software platform for more than 20 commercial sites in Shui On Xintiandi across the country, which is expected to achieve energy savings of 8-10% through data measurement and insights to reduce energy waste and management loopholes. On this basis, Honeywell will also use the two sites as a pilot to deploy advanced chiller group control, combined with the load control function module of the energy management platform, to further save 10%-15% of energy consumption, and realize the "two-pronged approach" of energy saving and technical energy saving in building operation and management. Honeywell expects the building as a whole to achieve energy savings of about 20 percent or more.
