Respondents are likely to invest in remote building management or enterprise performance management solutions in the next 12 to 18 months

Shanghai, China, December 27, 2021 - More than nine in ten (91%) property managers surveyed reported experiencing more than one outage in the past 12 months, including outage-related outages (54%), cyber breaches or physical breaches (38%), and unplanned downtime (34%). At the same time, respondents believe that measures such as reducing downtime (33%), enhancing operational technology (OT) cybersecurity (32%), and improving the speed or ability to predict or identify issues (29%) are expected to maximize value and revenue.

The fifth in Honeywell's 2021 Building Trends Survey series, the report, "Rethinking the Resilience and Sustainability of Data Center Facilities," highlights the challenges, priorities and personal perspectives of surveyed property managers in the data center industries in the United States, China, Germany and Saudi Arabia. The survey results show that property managers are aware of the critical importance of choosing technologies that optimize critical infrastructure uptime, safety, and energy efficiency.

"Data centers are the engines of e-commerce, cloud computing, and remote work, helping businesses across industries meet growing demand." Ye Li, Vice President and General Manager of Honeywell Intelligent Building Technologies Group China, said: "Investing in the efficiency, resiliency and sustainability of data centers should be seen as a strategic imperative, not just a nice-to-have. ”

The survey also found that uptime and cybersecurity were top concerns for property managers surveyed. Other issues of concern identified by the survey included lockdown monitoring (93%), downtime and shutdown risk (72%), OT cybersecurity (72%), and maintaining uptime (68%).

Investing in smart building solutions was a key focus for respondents. In fact, nearly all respondents (96%) say remote management is critical to their facilities, but only 34% of data centers currently have such a system deployed. In addition, 38% of respondents believe that the focus of their efforts in the near future is to improve automation, efficiency or sustainability through remote management technology. When asked what is most important about building smartly, 58% of respondents said that they would manage all building systems using a single platform that provides a unified display of data and insights.

Building operational challenges brought on by the pandemic have made healthcare facility property managers realize the importance of connected healthcare facilities to improve operational efficiency and productivity. Nearly 64% of respondents said they are more willing to invest in connected healthcare facilities now than they were before the pandemic. When asked what they value most about the role of connected healthcare facilities, the majority (56%) of respondents cited improving employee productivity and building operations in healthcare buildings, and 52% citing the ability to leverage standardized data and insights from a unified platform to manage all healthcare building systems.

The survey results also highlight the importance of sustainable data center operations. More than three in ten (34%) respondents cited improving energy efficiency as one of their top priorities for the next 12 to 18 months, while 54% cited the ability to reduce energy consumption in buildings to support sustainability goals.

"It's critical to minimize unplanned downtime in the data center." "Giving data center operators better visibility and control over their buildings and OT systems, with the same level of focus as critical IT systems, can help improve efficiency, reduce the risk of power outages, and strengthen security, fire, and safety procedures," Li added. ”
